An army of creepy crawlies has spun a 30ft-long caterpillar web near a DIY store in Stirling, Scotland.
Thousands of the tiny creatures have created a silky canopy over bushes outside Wickes in Sprinkerse while they feed.
The web provides protection so they can munch away happily, secure from predators.
They are likely to be Ermine moth caterpillars which are known to create spectacular webs.

As a side project over the next few months, I have decided to make a photo desk Web site for people who work the various photo desks at The Plain Dealer.
There are so many sites we visit, each with different sign-ons and passwords, and so many little tasks we do that require one to use, for example, the Firefox browser -- or Excite or Netscape -- exclusively (or the procedure doesn't work) that it seems a good idea to have a site where all these little tasks can be spelled out.
And since I wanted to have some art for the main page of the site, which I wanted to be as wide and thin as possible, I searched the archives for an image that could would fit the bill, so to speak, and I tweaked it in CS3 Beta. I may put some type on this image ... or not.
I spent some time shooting spider webs and came up with this series, many of which are significantly modified post-production.

Experimenting b&w landscape photography combined with close ups with my new camera. Liked the spider webs with the morning dew and expended the horizon a bit to capture the urban forest.

Spider webs have existed for at least 100 million years, as witnessed in a rare find of Early Cretaceous amber from Sussex, southern England. Insects can get trapped in spider webs, providing nutrition to the spider; however, not all spiders build webs to catch prey, and some do not build webs at all. "Spider web" is typically used to refer to a web that is apparently still in use (i.e. clean), whereas "cobweb" refers to abandoned (i.e. dusty) webs. However, "cobweb" is used to describe the tangled three-dimensional web of some spiders of the theridiidae family. While this large family is also known as the tangle-web spiders, cobweb spiders and comb-footed spiders, they actually have a huge range of web architectures.
