On Star Wars day 2019 we had a storm and I named a particular photo of a wave crashing into Seaham lighthouse “May the 4th be with you”, again in 2021 we have another. Here is a wave from yesterday for today #Wavewednesday
It’s hit or miss at the moment to whether you are going to get a #WaveWednesday or not, but I’ve remembered eventually. This wee wave could of easily been a victim of the mass cull that inevitably proceeds my storm sessions, but what saved this one? Elvis! Yes I can see Elvis’s face in the back of the wave. Surely you can see it too. Also probably impossible in Instagram but can anybody see the cormorant bobbing about in the sea.
What with Christmas and now the lockdown I’ve just lost track of the days, so here is a #wavewednesday on Thursday. I was freezing this morning walking the dogs at half five, one of the coldest this winter, but I was more numb with the events in the US. This was always going to happen so I shouldn’t of been shocked, but when it did it still knocks you back. It’s about the only thing that took my mind away from the grim virus situation we are in at the moment. This is what happens when you preach diversity, and spin lie after lie. Be warned Britain don’t think this can’t happen here. #bekind #besafe
We’ll be traveling down to Hertfordshire tomorrow to see my daughter et al and to be honest I started to get a little anxious about the drive. I’ve never been a keen driver for long distances, but as needs must over the years I’ve had to drive all over. For work I was up to the midlands all the time and now all my family live away so staying in touch involves lots of traveling. Prior to the pandemic I was regularly doing 700 miles round trips visiting the grandchildren, but now after 14 months of relative no driving these epic distances are a little daunting. It’s a confidence thing and I’m sure once well into the journey I’ll be ok, hopefully keeping the toilet stops down to one and I can persevere the leg aches that I will sure to get. So take my mind of it here is a #waveWednesday taken back in April, called Shape shifter. It’s a rare wave photo in that it’s not taken with my Canon 7dmkii and 100-400 combo sitting on a tripod. I decided to go light and local on the afternoon of this storm, carrying my fujifilm XH1 and 70-300mm lens plus 1.4x, all taken handheld. It was an experiment, the results were OK, but it won’t replace my DSLR for these sessions in a hurry.
After the romance of my story yesterday something a little more brutal today for #WaveWednesday a photo I took back in May 2019 that I left unprocessed. It’s a bit of a rare photo this one, that’s why it was saved from the bin. It’s unusual to catch the waves actually crashing into the Lighthouse directly as the shape of the pier and the prevailing weather usually takes the brunt of the crashing waves.
What are you doing today? Well I’m going for my jab. A little bit miffed about it though, it would seem I’m at back of my queue, in fact it would seem I’m joined the queue behind me. I shouldn’t complain at least I’m getting it a lot sooner than most in this world and I am really thankful. Staying on topic, what about those stupid games being played by our European neighbours obviously being political with AstraZeneca. The stats show the occurrence of blood clots are the same across all vaccinations ( and the non vaccinated) but these european countries suspend the non-profit vaccine rather than the other profit making vaccinates, nothing to do with the current dispute they have with the company, or is it! As a remoaner I cringe as It just plays into the hands of the Brexiteers, eurosceptic, and anti-vaxxers. Todays photo and a #WaveWednesday contribution is a 16:9 stormy day between the blizzards image. Have a nice day.
I had a day in the Lake District yesterday before the door is shut tomorrow, as I’m taking the car in for it’s service today it was my last chance, my last hoorah. More of that when my gear dries out and I get look at the photos. I’ve been so disappointed with my captures on these outings of late and I think part of it is looking at these photos while I’m still glowing from the adventure and they never live up to that glow. Anyway it’s #WaveWednesday last weeks offering Fury was my most popular photo on instagram, thank you for your appreciation. As I write this it’s still not looking good in the world, it looking like that awful man is going to get another 4 years. Why is it as humanity edges to destruction we are putting our faith in these populist chancers. They have horrible policies, and when disaster hits like the rona they don’t manager the problem as they are more worried about their image. Many see through this, and are horrified by ordinary people supporting these privileged egotists, which causes deep division and hatred and I had hoped this may be a turning point but I fear it won’t. If the virus and their management has not brought us to our senses I fear for the worst. After that side swipe and talking about populist chances here is my wave Side swipe.
It’s another #WaveWednesday and I’m posting a new image although it’s really just a continued sequence photo of Safe Harbour I posted back in August. This time I’ve decided to change from my preferred 16:9 to an Instagram friendlier 10:8. I hope you have all had a nice Christmas and not let the situation get you down to much. The first item on my news app after I returned from my dog walk this morning was that Essex is in big trouble, followed just now by the better news of the Oxford/AstraZeneca vaccine approved for use. So maybe in the middle of 2021 things will be near a better normal, in the meantime do the sensible thing and stay in your save harbour and give the health and emergency services a step up…
I was still pretty unwell when our holiday came due but somehow I managed the journey and rested for the next few days. Eventually I was able to look around me etc and finally go on to the beach and photograph. I'm still in considerable pain. I will post when I can for I've so many photos accumulating in my archives. I'll comment as much as I can but if I don't manage to respond to yours please forgive me.
I wish you well in whatever way is most appropriate for you but cannot take on the extra work of writing it to you individually. Thank you for your good wishes and to those who have made me their contact. Due to poor health, eye problems and low energy I regret I can't take on any new contacts but nearly always manage to reply to your comments. Please no more than 1 invite
Two days of strong winds and rain gave some dramatic scenes.
I don't expect to be posting more than once or twice a week for some time ahead.

I was still very unwell and in considerable pain when our holiday became due and it was touch and go whether I could make the journey but I knew I'd be able to rest well when I got there. I somehow made it and had a very good holiday as the sea views from this flat are wonderful and the light was changing on the sea continuously. I'm still in a good deal of pain and won't be able to post regularly for a while.
