I slid with this photo two Sundays ago by adding a sky. This week, I am adding a flare.

Watertower of Katwijk
The striking Katwijk water tower is a landmark that is visible from a great distance. It is one of the iconic monuments in Katwijk and important in the history of drinking facilities in the Netherlands. The national monument is therefore a landmark for many.
The water tower, which stands on the edge of the Zuidduinen, where drinking water was extracted, was built for the dune water extraction complex for the water supply in Katwijk, Leiden and the Duin- en Bollenstreek by the former Leidsche Duinwaterleidingmij.
The water tower was built in 1878 to a design by the city architect of Leiden, Jan Willem Schaap. The round tower is 33 meters high and built in neo-Romanesque style. The water reservoir is made of cast iron and has a capacity of 600,000 liters of drinking water.
The water tower is still in use. 600,000 liters of drinking water ensures that there is always pressure on the distribution network. The moment there is a power failure at the production site, the water tower takes over from the distribution pumps. Due to the large consumption of drinking water, the barrel in the tower empties after about five minutes. The emergency power starts within this time. The pumps take over from the tower again. The barrel then slowly fills up again. There was then no chance of backfire in the pipes.

This watertower is next to the highway between Tucson and Phoenix. I had been announcing out-loud that I would stop by and take a picture of it some day. I finally did drive about 40 minutes out of my way to take this shot. Unfortunately, when the sun really began to set, mountains were in the way, so I didn't get a vibrantly-colored sky, like I had hoped. Still, it was exciting for me because it came out pretty close to what I had pictured.
I used my Nikon D750, Tokina 11-16 @ 16mm, and a Lee Big Stopper for capture. Lightroom and Nik, my two post-production buddies, removed the color cast and brought everything out that I wanted.
