A view of part of the downs known as The Warren with a racehorse gallop further to the left. Kingsclere is a major horse racing and breeding centre, thanks to the Park House Stables where the chief trainer is Clare Balding's brother Andrew. There are great views to the right over Newbury. Further to the left is Watership Down. To the right is seen the Hannington TV mast.
Richard Adams, a local civil servant, began telling stories about rabbits to his children on a car journey and decided to publish what became a huge hit. It tells the story of a threatened warren which decides to relocate to a new place of calm and safety. The rabbits are assigned their own language, mythology and culture in what is clearly a study in leadership, inspired by the author’s knowledge of Homer and Virgil and his acquaintance with military heroes.
Sandham Memorial Chapel is in the village of Burghclere, Hampshire, England. It is a grade I listed 1920s decorated chapel, designed by Lionel Godfrey Pearson. The chapel was built to accommodate a series of paintings by the English artist Stanley Spencer. It was commissioned by Mary and Louis Behrend (1881–1972) as a memorial to Mary's brother, Lieutenant Henry Willoughby Sandham who died at the end of the First World War. The chapel is surrounded by lawns and orchards, with views of Watership Down. It is now run by the National Trust and is open to the public.
Muso Mouse joins Hazel & Friends at Watership Down, and for the first time, Hazel began to realize how much they had left behind. The holes and tunnels of the old warren had become smooth, reassuring and comfortable with use. There are no snags or rough corners. Every length smells of rabbit—of that great, indestructible flood of Rabbitry in which each one is carried along, sure-footed and safe. The heavy work had all been done by countless great-grandmothers and their mates. Now a new Journey begins again ...
Watership Down, a new Frogmore Region coming soon, by Tolla Crisp, where Imagination is the only weapon in the war with reality.

I think this was my best shot of 2020. The pandemic was in its early days. I felt like that jackrabbit. I was on high alert. In May I'd exited from my business of 25 years (no work) and moved into a new job for the summer. I was very... lucky. I was also very alert.
My family and I took walks in fields after dinner. There were a ton of rabbits. There were no planes. No cars. The city was weirdly quiet. I felt compelled to make keen observations and good judgments, just like the rabbits in Watership Down.
"The full moon covered the high solitude with its light. We are not conscious of daylight as that which displaces darkness. Moonlight...is inconstant. It transforms.”

A treasured little bunny, a long ago gift from my sister, is sitting next to a new mini glass pumpkin. I was doing great at not buying holiday decos - but that little pumpkin was too cute to resist. HSS
A line of tress between two fields, picked out by a beam of sunlight. In the distance is the ridge of Watership Down, made famous in the novel by Richard Adams.

Another fantastic shot taken while a late Summer storm was rolling over the Hampshire countryside, next to Watership Down.

If you were wondering, this is what it looks like on a great Summer's day.
Shot in Infrared, using my Sony A7R converted to full spectrum. This is a panorama of multiple images stitched together, to achieve that wide view of the landscape and the sky.
On the top of Watership Down, looking Northward toward Newbury. A field, fence and sign discourages walkers to venture off the footpath.
a tattoo design for a fellow lover of the novel.

“Rabbits live close to death and when death comes closer than usual, thinking about survival leaves little room for anything else.”

*** NOTE **** I was a bit surprised to see this photo pop-up in a few places with crops and edits. All I ask is that people just ask me first and I can at least approve (which I probably would with some type of link or attribution, e.g. web link reference or name).
Taking this photo involved a bit of planning to capture this unique angle not to mention a lot of bushwhacking carrying some decent gear, so please understand that I do have an affinity for my work, just as you may have an affinity for your own accomplishments.
I wonder if this child's dreams have been fulfilled as I listen to the the song from the movie Watership Down
At the same time I recollect that I took this photo in Exarchia, just a few minutes from the neighbourhood I have lived for the 12 first years of my life...
One of my hobbies was to draw...
One of my drawings was about the House of the Rabbit and the Cat who were observing the demonstrations of the political parties, mostly the Communist party back in the 60's...
Art Garfunkel's song came later when I was a student in Birmingham...
Another way to link this song is to a person close to me who was paralyzed due to stroke and later lost his sight therefore had to spend most of his time in isolation and to another person who is in the last stage of Alzheimer's with a hip fracture and also spends most of her time in isolation.
I wish I could give an answer:
Is it a kind of a dream Floating out on the tide Following the river of death downstream Oh, is it a dream?
There's a fog along the horizon A strange glow in the sky
And nobody seems to know where it goes And what does it mean?
Thinking of these two persons I can tell that although they left this infamous neighbourhood Wandering over the hills unseen they have never found true love and peace of mind.
I took this photo about a twelve years ago on Watership Down. Waking up this morning to see continuation of the heavy frosts in South East England that have been absent for some time reminded me of it.
This hill is part of a chain of hills in Old Burclere, Hampshire (near Newbury) in the area where Watership Down is. I was driving through and saw this gate and hill, and had to stop! :)

Professor Bunny, who has offered me wisdom and companionship for more than 70 years, dons a special ribbon and makes a unique public appearance to pay tribute to Richard Adams (1920-2016), author extraordinaire and creator of the peerless Watership Down.

"I’m not going to ask again! I want the coordinates to the burrow where the Easter Bunny hides his secret, chocolate stash!"
The Deadly Chocolate Bunny Wars
The Sequel to Watership Down
-An opportunistic scheme for several Killer, Gangster, bunny herds to wage a deadly war to overthrow the powerful, ruling, Easter Bunny Overlord turns terribly wrong when they discover just how connected the Easter Bunny is to the deeply corrupt chocolate, poultry, dairy and latex industries.
***…Ummm, did I mention it is raining out (again) today? lol +^D
