Well really, there is a beach less than 50 metres away so it makes sense not to fill a shallow pond with a high evaporation rate while there's a water shortage!

The graffiti reads: Our dam levels won't rise this easily. Please save water.

The dam levels are looking great compared to the previous few years but we have to keep saving water otherwise we'll end up close to day zero again. Water saving techniques have become the new normal around here.

My son was given a task at school - to make a poster on the topic WATER SAVING ð. It took me 2 weeks to think about what to draw. And here is the result ))) Thanks, your artist Valery Rybakow.

This Copernicus Sentinel-2B image features the city of Zaragoza nestling in the Ebro valley and flanked by mountains to the south.

Zaragoza is the capital of the province of Zaragoza in the region of Aragon in northeast Spain. It is home to about half of Aragon’s population, making it the fifth largest municipality in Spain.

In the top-right of the image, the Ebro River can be seen winding its way through the city. Between its source in the Cantabrian Mountains in the northwest and its delta on the Mediterranean coast, the Ebro River is fed by more than 200 tributaries as it flows across much of northern Spain. In fact, the Ebro River discharges more water into the sea than any other river in Spain.

In an otherwise arid region, the river is used to irrigate crops in the valley – fields can be seen in the top-right of the image.

To the south of the city and dominating the image, lie mountains, relatively devoid of vegetation. There are also mountains to the north that are beyond the frame of this image. These mountains, which effectively surround Zaragoza, form a barrier to moisture from the Atlantic Ocean and from the Mediterranean Sea, creating a semi-arid climate.

On average, Zaragoza only has about 350 mm of precipitation a year, compared to Paris in France, for example, which has around 650 mm of precipitation a year. In recent years, efforts – from discounts on water-saving products to new watering systems for parks – have been in helping to reduce water consumption. Efforts such as these resulted in Zaragoza’s per capita use of water dropping from 150 litres a day in 1997 to just 99 litres a day by 2012.

Earlier this year, I saw an article in the Savannah Morning News that mentioned that Food Lion was planning to close some of its locations in the Savannah area. This location had opened several years ago in the Eisenhower Square shopping center at the corner of Waters Ave. and Eisenhower Drive, although I'm not sure if this Food Lion is original to the shopping center.

When this store was open: www.flickr.com/photos/32911630@N03/4710217849/

While I was at this shopping center near the new McDonald's, I noticed that the sign had been taken down from the front of what used to be the Food Lion store, which closed a couple of months ago.

Finally, after 10 months with only a portable ship toilet and the bush, the proper toilet is working! Every complication imaginable slowed the installation of this toilet: Initially the understandable priority of having a kitchen (input is more important than output), then the need for professional assistance to install the ventillation pipe that takes the air from the composting chamber below the pedestal up to a vent 600mm above the second-storey roof, which required scaffolding; then we found we had been sent the wrong seats, and it took a month to get the right ones, then the electrical connector clips supplied were too small for the transformer cables, and when our airplane-building neighbour gave us the correct ones, the fan decided to blow up after 10 seconds of use. The next fan is still working as we speak, but too noisy. A 24/7 fan should be whisper-quiet, so we still have some homework to do before we can get our quiet house back! No complaints about the actual operation of the compost toilet, though: Absolutely no smell at all, far less than a conventional toilet; no pollution created, no nutrients wasted, and ample future fertiliser for our fruit trees. Plus: 30,000L of water saved a year!

On 28 and 29 January 2015 Farmers from CCAFS climate-smart villages and the wider Makueni region, attended the two farmer field days organized by the CGIAR Research Program on Climate Change, Agriculture and Food Security (CCAFS), East Africa and other partners working in Makueni. Farmers learned about pearl millet, sorghum, legumes and cassava technologies and later on went to Josephine Sammy’s farm for onsite trials.

The Guinevere Toilet’s elegant vertical detailing and gently notched angles echo the rich elemental design facets of traditional American furniture. These facets resonate in the distinctive column that supports the bowl and graceful tank, creating a pleasing coherence to its overall design. Its generous lid has been molded into a shelf, creating newfound space for toiletries, tissues, or other bathroom necessities. Skirted for easy maintenance, the Guinevere toilet features Universal Height – TOTO’s ergonomic, comfortable height design that facilitates rising from a sitting to standing and makes this aesthetically-pleasing one-piece toilet ADA-compliant. The WaterSense labeled high-efficiency toilet’s inner beauty arises from TOTO’s 1.28 gpf Double Cyclone Flush Engine. You just never know where you are going to find that very special plant. One that makes your mind focus on nothing but what path you need to take to get it. Will I break off a chunk that wont be missed? Do I look for seed that has not yet fallen to the ground, but is mature enough to take the time it will take to plant it, water it, and wait for germination, or do I just buy the damn thing. It probably sounds a bit weird... I would spend time at home fiddling with my home grown nursery when I should be spending time doing something else. I've studied plants all my life and became a certified nurseryman for the state of California in 1984 just after graduating from high school. I am very happy when I am able to spend time fiddling... in the garden. This is one of the prettiest aloes I own. Its dainty and colorful and the bloom is petite and brilliant.

I figured I would show it off for it is one of my favorite aloe plants.

And I thought we'd get no oranges this year.

Have you looked under the hood at the new 1G’s ultra high-efficiency ONE GALLON per flush Double Cyclone Flush Engine? It drives three actions simultaneously. First, the primary nozzle fires a high-speed stream of water that scours the rim and starts the water’s Cyclone action. Immediately, a second high-velocity nozzle fires, providing 360-degrees of bowl and rim cleansing action. The siphon jet harnesses the water cyclone’s accelerating power to generate unsurpassed waste removal at an unbelievable 1.0 gallons per flush. You save water, money, and time. bit.ly/Jkdzim

This is brilliant design. When you're done using the toilet, you press the flush button. The water in the tank flushes the toilet, and clean water comes out of the tap, with which you wash your hands. Once it's been through the sink, it goes directly into the tank for the next flush!

Earlier this year, I found out that this restaurant had changed yet again from Shane's Rib Shack to a Cajun seafood market/restaurant. Originally, this was a Burger King until 2006. Then it was the Old Savannah Diner from 2007 to 2009. Around the end of 2009 or beginning of 2010, the building was remodeled and had opened as Shane's Rib Shack, which closed around the end of 2012 or beginning of 2013.

An End to “Flush & Brush”: The new Dual Max Cyclone Flushing System puts an end to a common complaint that many dual-flush toilet owners have – the need to flush, then brush the bowl after every solid stop to remove streaks. The new Washlet G500’s Dual Max water cyclone spins around the SanaGloss glazed bowl’s interior as the rapidly rotating column of water effectively removes streaking from its sides. Voilà! No more “flush ‘n brush” bit.ly/KZbD2G

When I walked to this door, I saw that the interior of the building was being cleaned out. I didn't want to get closer than this in case there were any workers inside the building at the time.

When I walked up to the front window of the abandoned Food Lion on Waters Ave., I noticed that the paper over the doors had been written on by some of the people who worked there.

When I walked up to the abandoned Food Lion, one thing I noticed was that the sliding doors were removed from this end of the entrance way. I also remember that there was a wall with windows in the middle of this entrance way, and it had also been taken down.

The Fountainhead toilet provides exceptional flushing performance, using just 1.28 gallons per flush, saving as much as 3,200 gallons of water annually over a traditional 1.6-gallon toilet.

Look ma, no hands ...

The two main advantages here is that

1) You can control the water precisely with your foot, hands free, instead of letting water flow to waste, while you wash your hands.

2) Hygiene - hands free, so you can wash your hands and not having to touch any surface which is likely to be touched both before and after washing hands.

It beats the sensor taps, as they often run for too long or too short time. And with a constant flow. Here, like the accelerator in your car, you can not only decide how long time the water flows, but that initial wetting of hands for the soap, can be just a tiny bit, whereas you can increase the flow when you need to rinse hands.

In this setup, there is only one supply of water, "preheated lukewarm", from the drainwater heat recovery source (see a previous picture about this).

The foot pedal is available in one or two-string (depicted is a one-string). In the two-string setup, as the pedal is pressed more toward the bottom, the temperature increases.

Recommendation: If you need both hot and cold water, install TWO one-string pedals, so close together so one foot can operate either, or both. Even more important, route the hot and cold water as far as possible before they join. In this case, the temperature change is almost instant. There should be a short distance at least before the outlet, to be sure the water is mixed enough. (A few inches should be sufficient)

This installation is used mainly in hospitals, dentists and so on, where hygiene is of a higher priority than in private homes. But why not use it at home also? Each pedal is around 200 USD, but as you can see in the picture, you save the faucet using just some simple tubing and joints. Being able to route the tubes in just about any way, the actual design of the sink and "faucet" is quite flexible.

Farmers in Karnal use a teniometer to gauge the moisture level in soil. The instrument can help them judge when fields need to be irrigated when they practice Alternate Wetting and Drying of paddy- a climate smart practice that mitigates methane emissions from rice and conserves water.
