The golden autumn colours of the trees contrast beautifully with the rugged, rocky slopes and the snow-capped mountains in the background. The sun illuminates the leaves, giving nature an almost magical look. One challenge in photographing forest waterfalls is in dealing with all of the clutter: fallen trees, branches, etc in your composition. In this image I tried to use the clutter to my advantage by creating a different composition than I normally would have done with a waterfall.

The famous Panther Creek Falls. Words really don’t do this place justice and I’ve not (yet) been to another waterfall like it. It’s a little bit of a hike from Portland, but that’s good since it helps keep the rabble out :) It can also be a bit dangerous getting to the bottom of the falls, so be careful if you decide to go.
This is my first image from here so I decided to go with the classic view.

For great waterfall hiking in Bavaria this is a terrific place to go. The Wimbachklamm is a kind of slot canyon, in Ramsau near Berchtesgaden. The trail will lead you on a well secured path to see spectacular waterfalls plunging thunderous into the gorge. You will see dozens or maybe even hundreds of little streams and lovely bright green moss on the steep rocky sides. Over thousands of year the river wimbach had being eroding the rock face in the Wimbach valley. The result is this awe inspiring gorge. The force of the water is so strong in places, that water pools have been formed from the water pounding down from the rock walls into the riverbed. There is a safe wooden path along the gorge which allows walkers to be captivated by this unique work of nature. A sight not be missed! The Wimbachklamm lies at the entrance to the Wimbach valley, in the Berchtesgaden National Park, at the feet of the Wetzmann and the Hochkalter. Local foresters were the first to build a bridge through the gorge to help transport wood out of the valley. The wood was needed for the saltmines in Berchtesgaden. They stopped removing wood for the mines in 1843 and the wooden bridge was opened to the public for the first time in 1847. A ravine from a fairytale. After passing through the gorge, the path leads gently uphill through the amazing Wimbach Valley. After 3 hours we reached Wimbachgrieshütte at 1327m. In spring and summer meals and drinks are served there.

De Alpen liggen vol kloven waardoor het smeltwater van de gletsjers een weg zoekt naar het dal. Gletsjermelk is smeltwater dat van een gletsjer ontsnapt en vermengd is met stukjes afgesleten rots. Doordat er stukjes rots in vermengd zitten, is het vaak wat wittig, waardoor het gletsjermelk genoemd wordt. De deeltjes absorberen alle kleuren van het zichtbare spectrum behalve het blauw, dat wordt weerkaatst. Vandaar de prachtige blauwe kleur. De wellicht mooiste wandeling van Ramsau leidt vanaf de Wimbachbrücke aan de Alpenstrasse nabij Ramsau door de Wimbachklamm - de kloof naar het Wimbachtal. Het pad gaat over brugjes langs de bruisende Wimbach die zich tussen met mos begroeide wanden neerstort. Een adembenemende natuur en talrijke idyllische plaatsen om te spelen en te relaxen. De Wimbach is een goed voorbeeld van een ongerepte bergrivier. Dit goed door wandelpaden ontsloten dal lijkt onberoerd door de mens. Door dit prachtig hooggebergtedal stap je langs een geleidelijk stijgend wandelpad langs de prachtige Wimbach rivier in een drietal uur naar de Wimbachgrieshütte 1327m. Voor ons ver genoeg want we moesten ook nog terug. Voor de echte fanatiekelingen kan je vanaf hier met meerdaagse tochten de berghutten rond het Steinernes Meer bereiken. Dit is een niet al te moeilijke wandeling die je echter onder een brandende zomerzon wel doet afzien.

As I stated in my previous post from Oneida Falls, Ricketts offers one of the best waterfall hikes you'll find. Mohican is the last waterfall on the left creek from the Rose Lake parking trailhead. What is really cool on this waterfall is the stream that joins the creek from the west. This offers a number of shots of those cascades and the waterfall itself.
