A Water Dragon enjoying some shade.

Always common near water, these large lizards will come and join your picnic, in hope of a handout. Their natural diet is mainly insects, fruits and flowers but they are very catholic in their tastes and will eat almost anything

Resting on a board walk.

Australian Water Dragons are extremely shy in the wild, but readily adapt to continual human presence in suburban parks and gardens. They are fast runners and strong climbers. When faced with a potential predator, they seek cover in thick vegetation, or drop from an overhanging branch into water. They are able to swim totally submerged, and rest on the bottom of shallow creeks or lakes for up to 90 minutes to avoid detection.

This little fellow is one of three juveniles and several adults who live among the rocks at the edge of the local river. I love watching them, they're very fast and have loads of attitude.

A Water Dragon appears on the side of a low hedge. They are very likeable, and appear to be quite friendly towards 'we' humans. I heard a joke that with all the photos that are being taken of them, the Water Dragons will soon begin to charge a fee !! I like that.

... popped out from under a bush just as I was about to pass by ... then it darted under the bush again ... after I took its photo !

Back of a bench observer. I must say also very photogenic.

Juvenile Water Dragon in a playful mood, in dappled light. Within seconds, it waddled off into the undergrowth.

I would like to thank everyone that took time to leave kind comments, awards and faves.

If I had blinked I probably would have missed seeing this little guy, absolutely motionless at the base of a gnarled tree.

Captured while walking through

Roma Street Parkland. A nearby

gardener left his straw hat on a rock when this Water Dragon just

happened to be walking nearby.

One of those moments when a camera comes in very handy.

Captured as I walked through one of the main entrances of Roma Street Parkland. I'd be happy knowing that the Water Dragon was posing for the photo !!

Basking in the sun on a log near the lake.

Resting on an unprepared garden surround. I guess this little guy would have been about 60 cm long? (I think it had its

eye on me).

We went for a wander through the Wollongong Botanic Garden on Easter Monday,

This Eastern water dragon was very close to the pathway with lots of kids walking past. It stood its ground and the children were well behaved while we were there.

don't mind if you do! Friendly Waterdragon

Also a cool retreat for the Water Dragon resting on the left of image. It was another very hot day. We need rain badly.

Going back onto my hard drive.. as was checking for a set of photos

found the critters album from few years back

reprocessed with the extra knowledge I have picked up since doing... and here you have a Water Dragon

When walking through forest in Ulladulla, my path crossed with a little eastern water dragon - alert, ever vigilant.

These are fast runners, strong climbers and able to swim fully submerged and rest on the bottom of shallow creeks or lakes for long periods to avoid detection.

A juvenile, methinks, finding its way around the big world.

A rather large Water Dragon perched on a rock for passers by to see, but moments later it scampered away into the undergrowth.

Intellagama lesueurii lesueurii. We don't usually get Eastern Water Dragons in our garden, so we were surprised to see this one in our Grevillea bush today!

... enjoying a bit of a dip in the pond at the Japanese Gardens. From memory, this is the first time I've taken a photo of one in the water. Not long after I took this, it swam away and scurried up a nearby rock.

Keeping an eye on proceedings as people walked by. Not really a shy fellow at all.

(Best view large) Our little friends in the gardens at South Bank Brisbane.

An Australian Eastern Water Dragon.

They have very long tails. This fine specimen was about 90cm.

These friendly reptiles roam around the gardens often sunning themselves on the walkways. They are very inquisitive and are not perturbed by humans.

Going for the title of water dragon whisperer, obviously……
