Dieser kleine Pilz an einem Waldweg sieht aus wie ein Wachposten.

This little mushroom on a forest path looks like a sentry post.

The Watchtower is one of the most prominent features on the South Rim of Grand Canyon National Park. . .The 70 foot high stone tower was built in 1932. . .It contains a gift shop and observation decks at the top which afford fantastic views of the Grand Canyon and the Painted Desert. . .I took this shot in 1977 during a vacation drive from Wichita to Los Angeles. . .The original was shot on Kodachrome 25 color slide film with a Nikon Nikkormat EL camera and Nikkor 24mm lens. . .There are several shots of that camera and lens on my photostream. . .I decided to convert it to black and white to enhance the stone textures of the tower. 1977? WOW, I just can't believe it was that long ago. . .Oh well, time marches on, but I have very strong memories of that trip and of taking this shot. . .

A must-visit at the Grand Canyon.

desert view watchtower, grand canyon, arizona

this was a view of the watchtower at the grand canyon along the desert view drive. this was taken near sunset, and perhaps we spent too much time at this viewpoint and arrived late at hopi point. this will probably be my last picture of the grand canyon before i move on to pictures of california from my trip. looks like i'm done with the best of arizona - grand canyon, antelope canyon and monument valley.

Cala Pi, Balearic Islands. Built 1543 when the Turkish and Berebers where a constant threat for Mallorca. As a way to protect Llucmajor city. This pirate watchtower marks the spot of this tiny cove. A slip of sun-bleached sand, luminous turquoise water and sky-high headlands are your reward for the 147-step climb down!

A shorter exposure here with some swooshiness on the rocks. It was still pretty choppy and I had a small boy behind me trying to win a Darwin award on the edge the cliff.

Wex week 1

After almost six months away from my bricks I'm very excited to be back, although it very frustratingly took me several days of 'building' block to finally start something I was happy with! I've been wanting to start with some castle building and this years Summer Joust categories provided some great motivation!

Here is my first entry in the 'no bley' category and also an Age of Mitgardia Build for Guilds of Historica on Eurobricks. I've been wanting to experiment with some brighter foliage for a while (the weird green colour leaves are Alt Bricks). In the end this is a compromise between my desire to go wild with colour and my compulsion to keep it somewhat realistic!!!

Hopefully the photography is ok. I'm having some issues with my eyes so focusing on computer screens is not pleasant at the moment.

Thanks for looking! It's great to be building again!

. . . . another watchtower!

Cullercoats

A minimalist meditation on structure and solitude —clarity, under a sky that feels infinite yet contained. The tension between presence and absence — a watchtower waiting for no one, a bridge leading nowhere urgent. It’s the serenity of order touched by the melancholy of emptiness.

After shooting sunrise at Piedra Somberico, I made my way back along the long dusty track that winds around the cliffs, just west of Mojacar. At this point you can see the ancient Perulico watchtower ahead on a prominent ridge on the headland. This dates from the Nasrid period of the 13-15th Century and formed part of th Mediterranean defensive system, which has similar towers along the coastline of Southern Spain.

At this time in the morning there were only a couple of hardy anglers along this route trying to get their early "catch", I suppose I could be accused of doing the same, only mine was on a memory card!

Thanks for looking :)

In the frozen north, the Kiruna watchtower is strategically placed near the river to ensure the safety of travellers making the journey through Mitgardia.

So this is yet another entry for summer joust, this time in the frozen north category. Got a few more shots coming later this week to show some of the details.

The technique for the pinetrees are borrowed from my buddy Full Plate :)

The Watchtower is another model for my medieval project Along Treacherous Road.

The Watchtower will be placed near The Old Warehouse and The Bridge. Guards on the watch will be overlooking the main road and the river keeping a keen eye on any suspicious activities in the area.

The model itself took more or less 3 months to design and build. The round shape is approximated by convex polygon with 16 sides which is enough to give the illusion of round cylinder. Probably the area around the doors and the roof itself took most of the time as they required several complete redesigns along the way.

This was built for the Blitzard 2.0 flash MOC/contest, for the Elken tribe, and the best stronghold category. The stonework technique is made using half stud offsets, see how that's built here: www.brickbuilt.org/?p=285

The Elken tribe has been building strong stone watchtowers to fortify their lands against their polar bear neighbors:

Mary Elizabeth Jane Colter (April 4, 1869 – January 8, 1958) was an American architect and designer. She was one of the very few female American architects in her day. She was the designer of many landmark buildings and spaces for the Fred Harvey Company and the Santa Fe Railroad, notably in Grand Canyon National Park. Her work had enormous influence as she helped to create a style, blending Spanish Colonial Revival and Mission Revival architecture with Native American motifs and Rustic elements, that became popular throughout the Southwest. Colter was a perfectionist, who spent a lifetime advocating and defending her aesthetic vision in a largely male-dominated field.

This panoramic astrophotography image consists of 5 individual exposures (14mm, 30 seconds, ƒ/2.8, ISO 6400) captured with a Canon 6D with a Samyang 14mm ƒ/2.8 lens and then processed and stitched together using Adobe Lightroom.

Image features the always impressive Milkyway arching over the old signal watchtower at Ardmore.

In times of need, the watchtowers of Eolas are manned to protect and give spirit to the nearby villages.

I was having a look down my stream and I realized I had only made one round tower. So feeling that it was compulsory to have a go at another I came up with this. I think the result was much better than I had planned and the landscape was a bit of an experiment but I am really happy with the end look. Flowers and vines make things look pretty :p

Hope you enjoy and C&C needed.
