The view across the snow capped mountains of Yosemite from Washburn Point (7,500 feet ASL), with Nevada Falls, below the granite dome of Liberty Cap, as the main focal point in the middle distance. Because the mid-morning light was quite harsh, I elected to increase the temperature, up orange and yellow saturation, and reduce clarity in Lightroom. Thanks for looking.
This was taken from the top of Mt Washburn in Yellowstone National Park. You can see the trail leading up the summit and beyond that The Grand Canyon of The Yellowstone. That leads to Hayden Valley with the Yellowstone river winding through and way in the distance you can even see Grand Teton mountain.
CC002 climbs upgrade through Washburn with loaded coal hoppers on the head end. The line's Southern heritage is made obvious by the whistle posts dotting the right of way.

"If you’re looking for a spectacular, moderate-to-difficult peak hike with 360-degree views, head to Mount Washburn in the northwestern part of Yellowstone National Park. It’s between Tower Fall and Canyon Village. What makes Mount Washburn so spectacular is the trail tops off at 10,219 feet, is lined with incredible wildflowers, especially in July, and offers breathtaking views from its summit.
When you reach the top, you’ll find a fire lookout tower that has interpretive exhibits and restrooms inside. The fire lookout is a great place to take shelter from the wind, if it’s gusty while you’re there. Beyond, you’ll see Yellowstone Lake, the Absaroka mountain range and more. On a clear day, you can see between 20 to 50 miles." yellowstonepark.com
Probably not tho on this day. Might need some snowshoes.

Mount Washburn, elevation 10,243 feet (3,122 m), is a prominent mountain peak in the Washburn Range in Yellowstone National Park, Wyoming. The peak was named in 1870 to honor Henry D. Washburn, leader of the Washburn–Langford–Doane Expedition. The Washburn Range is one of two mountains ranges completely within the boundaries of Yellowstone (the Red Mtn range being the other).
Our videographer was not so keen on lugging his equipment to the summit of Mount Washburn, but we ended up with some great footage.
Plus, I got some stills like this one.

This neat elevator stands just off "downtown" Washburn. The low train speed makes it possible to get this shot after the bridge shot without any undue drama.
The (I presume) man made falls on the River Washburn, created to syphon water to power some long lost industrial complex. Still, looks quite nice now.
KXCG rolls south on the rolling profile of the Cumberland Gap branch with Eastman loads. It's always easy to tell when some railroads were built in the late 19th century.

Shot this for the Dogwood52 Challenge Week 41. This is my friend Ann getting up closer. I stayed up high so it would work for the Challenge.....Landscape - Get High. It was busy, lots of people and hard to shoot without getting someone in the shot.
