The history of Kalk Bay was initially centred on fishing. The Dutch under Simon van der Stel had described the abundance of fish at Kalk Bay in 1687. Later c. 1860 Filipino fishermen who were wrecked off Cape Point, settled in Kalk Bay. Their fellow-countrymen joined them either as ship deserters or refugees from the Philippines after the unsuccessful uprising against the Spanish in 1872.
In 1919 a breakwater was built, 243 metres long and runs parallel in a north-easterly direction to the coastline. It is 9 metres wide with an outer parapet wall which gives added protection to the fishing fleet in heavy weather. A lower parapet-wall was added to the original plan to act as a seat for fishing from the breakwater. A 6 metre roundhead with lighthouse was constructed at the end of the breakwater. A fish landing quay, 80 metres long reclaiming an area of an acre was constructed at right angles to the breakwater in a northerly direction.

Waarschuwing

Warning!!!
Yesterday I noticed that there are several photo-sharing websites, who have ALL my photos from my Flickr account for free download . I never have given permission for that!
It seems I'm not the only one! If you change your settings, the photos disappear on those sites.

This, too, is from our road trip across country, from Washington state to Kentucky, covering 10 states! This was from our first leg in Oregon, somewhere between Pendleton and La Grande, Oregon. La Grande is actually just past the mountains.
This is what we had to drive through, realizing we had a winter storm warning ahead of us! This was the scariest portion of our trip, because we knew what was ahead of us, with a very real possibility of snow and ice! Scary! But even with some snow and ice, we got through it! (We did have chains, if we had needed them.) Once we hit the summit, we were in the clear!
I just love these dark clouds (now that it's over, I can say that! ha!), and with the sun shining through in the midst, I thought it was just beautiful! There is definitely light at the end of the tunnel! ha! Hope you all enjoy!

Happy Crazy Tuesday!
A dense fog warning was the forecast for the next morning. So I set my alarm clock to wake up early around 5am and headed down to this spot near the River. A walkway with some light poles that stretch for quite awhile. The Missouri River is just to the right side of the frame where there is a good size drop-off. It was eerily quiet and spooky to say the least.

Mount Warning is a mountain in the Tweed Range in the Northern Rivers region of New South Wales, Australia.
Mount Warning is the central volcanic remnant of an ancient shield volcano, the Tweed Volcano, which would have been about 1,900 m (6,200 ft) above sea level or just under twice the height of the current mountain. This volcano last erupted around 23 million years ago.
This afternoon shot taken from the beach at Byron Bay, a popular beachside town located in the far-northeastern corner of the state of New South Wales.
The Storm was a strong windy one. We had warnings on the phone to take cover, not me, out taking pictures. Looks like its coming down my street. Thank you for viewing.

Ecological Cycle: Lesson One
I took a long walk in search of shore birds along the coast of a Massachusetts beach; at the end of two miles, I stumbled across a group of gulls feeding on a seal carcass. For reasons unknown, the seal was not able to overcome his fight for survival. On the other hand, this dominant gull secures the find, fending several other gulls – the very essence of Mother Nature; call it survival of the fittest!
