Christmas in July!.......Found this cooperative little guy at Cooper's Rock State Forest, Preston County, West Virginia.....7/1/2019.

Warbler blessings are abundant this winter season. I have so many photos of them and I plan to post everyone.

What is the difference between the Myrtle Warbler and the Yellow-rumped Warbler?

Regional Differences

The Yellow-rumped Warbler has two distinct subspecies that used to be considered separate species: the "Myrtle" Warbler of the eastern U.S. and Canada's boreal forest and the "Audubon" Warbler of the mountainous West. The Audubon has a yellow throat; in the Myrtle subspecies, the throat is white.

The warbler breeds in dense forests,[6] where it will most likely be found among the branches of young, densely packed, coniferous trees

Dartford Warbler searching for food

Yup, that's what they are called~Yellow rumped Warbler, this one maybe a female or juvenile. The cedar berries has blown onto the back deck after a recent storm and this bird took the opportunity for an easy snack. The camera wasn't set up quite right but I feared taking the time to fiddle with it because then the bird would leave and I would be stuck with just a photo of the planks.

Fall migrants have been passing south through NH for many weeks now. The latest species to appear on Airport Road is the Tennessee warbler (Leiothlypis peregrina), a handsome but modestly attired species. This gal and her friends were part of a mixed flock dominated by black-capped chickadees foraging in the roadside woods and thickets. They are not as frequently observed in this area as other warblers, such as their noisy relatives, the pine warblers that dominated this scene for the past several weeks.

Well for my birding friends this warbler is very interesting. It is from the Cottonwoods Campgrounds in Big Bend National Park. When I took the picture, I thought this warbler seemed out of place as not too many would be in the area in July. It can be one of only two, both out of their usual range, but with the drought, this one decided to stay close to the Rio Grande. I have tentatively ID'd it as a golden-cheeked warbler, female, which is highly endangered. The only other possibility is the black-throated green warbler but the head coloration isn't quite right. Most of my birding friends are leaning for the golden-cheeked warbler which would be quite a find! Please let me know what you think.

The Hooded warblers were vocal this morning but extremely difficult to locate. Song would bounce around from one area to another. It was fully an hour before I could locate one and finally get some photos. Time well spent.

The Yellow-rumped Warbler (Setophaga coronata) is a common nesting bird across much of the montane west of the United States as well as across a large area of Canada and Alaska. The species is quite hardy, especially for a warbler, and winters across the southern half of the United States, even in very cold temperatures. This species is one of the warblers that even beginning bird watchers become quickly familiar with. At times in the winter in the southern United States, the "butter butts" seem to be everywhere!

A flash of yellow and soft, melodic, song was all there was to indicate the presence of this little bird among the foliage lining the path at the Estuary. At first, I thought her to be a Wilson's Warbler but a closer look (and comparison via the Cornell Lab of Ornithology) led to "Yellow".

This is my second sighting and this time the Warbler came to my location.

Valley Falls state Park..........this guy actually landed on my camera at one point......Marion County, WV.......5/1/2017.

We were sitting outside the RV at Patagonia State Park near Patagonia, AZ. I always have my binoculars on my lap and camera nearby and had been watching various Flycatchers, vireos, and warblers in the trees nearby when my eye caught this bird near the ground close by. Unfortunately it was behind a rock and I clipped its feet because I couldn't get high enough and was afraid to get closer and spook the bird. This is probably the 8th or 9th MacGillivray's we've seen recently.

Chestnut-sided warblers (Setophaga pensylvanica) are still calling and guarding territories in New Hampshire. Their songs sound cheerful, but the males are fairly aggressive in dealing with rivals. The most commonly heard and seen warblers in our area are chestnut-sided and yellow warblers, common yellowthroats, and ovenbirds.
