Although this mountain restaurant was quite busy we managed to get a nice table and could enjoy cool drinks and coffee on our hiking to to the Wank Summit

When we made our way up to the Wank (1780 m) it was already afternoon and we had some moody and hazy light on the peaks of the Wetterstein mountains: Waxenstein (2277 m) in the mid foreground and Zugspitze (2962 m) in the top left background. I enjoy this scene because of its play with high contrast which emphasizes the powerful appearance of that range.

Ein herrliches Panorama eröffnet sich dem Fotografen im Bereich der Buckelwiesen bei Klais im bayerischen Alpenland. Vor der Kulisse des Wanks (ganz links mit immerhin 1780m "der" Aussichtsberg von Garmisch-Partenkirchen) und des Krottenkopfs, im rechten oberen Bildbereich mit schon anspruchsvolleren 2086m, schlängelte sich 111 227-5 mit dem RE 4873 voller Tagestouristen aus der bayerischen Kapitale nach Mittenwald.
A wonderful view opens up to the photographer in the area of the Buckelwiesen near Klais in the Bavarian Alps. In front of the scenery of the Wank (on the far left with at least 1780m "the" panoramic mountain of Garmisch-Partenkirchen) and the Krottenkopf, in the upper right part of the picture with a more demanding height of 2086m, 111 227-5 is meandering to Mittenwald together with the RE 4873 full of day tourists from the Bavarian capital.

Das hier vorliegende Bild stand seit rund zwei Jahren an oberster Stelle auf meiner „to-do-Liste“. Hatte es im August 2019 noch aufgrund der Schatten des Wanks nicht geklappt, so wurde im Juli 2020 nach intensivem Studium des Bergwetters ein neuerlicher Anlauf genommen. In Garmisch-Partenkirchen angekommen passte letztlich alles: Wiese, Klarheit des Lichts und ein wolkenfreies Bergpanorama. Für die nicht Ortskundigen eine kurze Erläuterung des Panoramas im Wettersteingebirge von links nach rechts: die erste deutlich sichtbare Erhebung ist die markante Alpspitze (2628m), der pyramidenförmige Gipfel dient sowohl der Marktgemeinde Garmisch-Partenkirchen, als auch dem inzwischen drittklassigen Eishockey-Traditionsklub SC Riessersee als Wahrzeichen. Für geübte und überaus erfahrene Alpinisten beginnt dort der sog. „Jubiläumsgrad“, welcher über die Grießkarscharte (2463m), den Hochblassen (2707m), die Vollkarspitze (2630m) und die Äußere/Mittlere/Innere Höllentalspitze (2716-2740m) schließlich im Westen die Zugspitze (2962m) erreicht. Wem das zu strapaziös ist, der kann die im rechten Bildrand erkennbaren Seilbahnen ab Greinau oder von Ehrwald in Tirol aus für eine gemütliche Erklimmung der Zugspitze wählen.
Im Tal herrschte eine angenehme morgendliche Ruhe, als die frühere Werbelokomotive 111 017-0 (Bahnland Bayern, genannt “Maxl”) mit der RegionalBahn 59456 der bayerischen Landeshauptstadt entgegeneilte.
This picture has been on top of my “to-do list” for more than two years. A first attempt was not successful due to long shadows in August 2019. Thus I thoroughly studied the mountain weather forecasts and in July 2020 all conditions seemed to be perfect. For all of you who are not that familiar with the Wetterstein mountains, I am going to give you a short introduction. From the left to the right there is the Alpsitze, the Grießkarscharte, the Vollkarspitze, theOuter/Middle/Inner Höllentalspitze, the Hochblassen and finally the Zugspitze. The entire route, which is only recommended for highly experienced alpinists is the so-called “Jubilee Ridge”. Those of you who prefer a less risky trip to the top of Germany’s highest mountain may take the cable cars from Greinau or Ehrwald that can also be seen on the right.
Down in the valley between Garmisch-Partenkirchen and Farchant the former advertising locomotive 111 017-0 was hauling RB 59456 to the Bavarian capital.

The first rays of sunlight are illuminating the mountains of Wetterstein with Alpspitze near the center and Zugspitze at the right end of the massif. View goes over Murnauer Moos at the foreground, the mountains of Estergebirge with the summit of Wank at the left border and Ammergebirge on the right side are forming the so-called »Heaven's Gate«.
I created a linear gradation filter and an additional circular gradation filter with elliptical shape in Lightroom in order to be able to manage the harsh contrast and get the peaks in the sunlight a bit more shining.
Eine Konstellation, die sich so in dieser Form nie wiederholen lässt. Die erste ihrer Art, 111 001-4, heute in beige-blau vor Sonderzügen des DB Museums Koblenz anzufinden, beförderte am 11. Februar 2012 einen aus n-Wagen bestehenden Regionalzug (RB 5417) von München nach Innsbruck über die schneebedeckte Winterlandschaft der Mittenwaldbahn. Ob es dort nochmal so viel Schnee geben wird?
This arrangement will never ever be seen again. The first class 111 locomotive (111 001-4) was hauling a regional train (RB 5417 from Munich to Innsbruck) consisting of so-called n-wagons through the snow-covered Mittenwald train line.

This was the first row of 3 panorama shots I took at that summer morning in June 2020, now I edited them and made the panorama. Very first mild sunlight was illuminating the summits of Wetterstein, the mountains of Estergebirge (left) and Ammergebirge (right) are appearing still in blue shadows and morning fogs are covering Murnauer Moos.

穿越迷霧~祝大家有一個展新而充滿收穫的一年~!!
Beautiful panorama of magnificent mountains above sea of clouds & tourists with their pet dog enjoying their time on the grassy meadows on top of Mount Wank in Garmisch Partenkirchen, Bavaria, Germany
This is a sunset panorama with a closer look than the first one as it was merged from 3 single shots which were taken with 145 mm focal length.
At the left side is Estergebirge starting with Hohe Kiste and leading over Oberer Rißkopf, Krottenkopf and Bischoff up to Wank. Behind we can see Wetterstein with Hochwanner, Alpspitze with Hochblassen behind and the Jubiläumsgrat leading over Höllentalspitzen to Zugspitze, Germanys highest mountain.
Ring Ouzel (Turdus torquatus) adult, male, Germany
A distinct looking dark thrush with a pale crescent on the chest, (male’s is bright white, female’s is dingier.)
Adult blackish overall with frosty pale wing edgings. Immature in autumn–winter has a much duller collar.
Bill is duller yellow than Eurasian Blackbird, with a dark top edge and tip.
Rather shy, flying into cover or far away over slopes when disturbed.
Breeds in open highland habitat, including moorland, Alpine meadows, rocky mountain sides, and conifer stands.
Migrants can turn up in fields and open farmland.
Sometimes associated strongly with junipers, especially in non-breeding range.
Song is pleasant but simple and repetitive; calls include a low “taktaktak” and a buzzy “zrrp, zrrp.”
I just edited the last 3 shots of this series that were caught with very late warm sunlight and merged a panorama with them. View is a bit more concentrated to the mountains of Estergebirge and Wetterstein but still some part of Murnauer Moos can be seen at the foreground as we have a ratio of 3:1 for this panorama – just like the classical 6x17 film format.
I called it »Last sunlight at Werdenfelser Land« - this is more specific than the bavarian alps. The region has got its name by the old castle of Werdenfels and these mountains can be seen as the heart of it or at least as very typical for that bavarian region.

Eine Krise, die zwar nicht Erich Wuttke selbst, aber seinen Glauben ins Wanken bringt.
Due to the rather monochrome appearence, I tried black and white conversion via the channel mixer in Photoshop too but finally found the coloured version to be more convincing. Enhancement of contrast was additionaly done via an individual gradation curve in a layer.
This is a further panorama view from a vernal evening at Murnauer Moos. Here we have Estergebirge in the middle of the picture with Wank right behind the hut. Farer away Wetterstein is rather covered by clouds and at the right border we can see Ettaler Manndl.
I used the 50 mm lens to get a bit closer to the scene and merged 3 hand held shots in photoshop.
