Ever since I wandered around the Danish island of Mandø a few years ago (www.flickr.com/photos/115540984@N02/53773398259/in/datepo...), I've developed a bit of a crush on oystercatchers.
When they took to the air in groups of about 20, you could hear them from the other side of the island, and they were always happy to greet you if you got too close to their young.
This year in Norway, they were permanent beach residents again, and as the year progressed, there were more and more youngsters around. They are incredibly cute in their own right, and they receive loving care from their parents, who are constantly on guard, but also help the chicks prepare their food during the first few days. They then open the yellow seaweed with its balls and offer it to their young. The young are very eager to learn and often watch what mom and dad are doing, not shy about pouncing on anything edible.
The photo here may be a courtship display, and it shows their enthusiastic calls. I always found it very amusing.

From a wander up probably the Lake District's most accessible peak. Not always
the easiest to negotiate though with the
craginess of some of the sections but very
rewarding non the least. This was my second
time climbing this wee beast for sunrise in a
week, the first attempt was a non starter with
the sky getting lighter without any sign or
sight of colour from the sunrise. This time
however had some beautiful light to capture.

Die Saison ist eigentlich schon vorbei. Die schönen Teile sieht man nicht mehr wirklich. Aber das finde ich nicht schlimm, denn auch die verbleibenden Teile finde ich wunderschön und faszinierend.
Ich bin gespannt, ob ich sie dieses Jahr nochmal erwische. Der heutige Abend hat sich auf alle Fälle gelohnt.
