Some month ago this lovely place was filled with life.
Now it is snow covered and lonely but still very kind.
The Westerwald (literally 'Western forest') is a low mountain range on the right bank of the river Rhine in the German federal states of Rhineland-Palatinate, Hesse and North Rhine-Westphalia. It is a part of the Rhenish Massif (Rheinisches Schiefergebirge or Rhenish Slate Mountains). Its highest elevation, at 657 m above sea level, is the Fuchskaute in the High Westerwald.
The last light of a mid october day makes the trees glow at university park of Trier / Germany.

This rabbit was lying down on the edge of a walking trail at dusk and didn't move an inch when he saw me. He allowed me to shoot some photos, got up once to stretch, then plopped right back down in the same spot. He must have been tuckered out after a long day.

I spotted many patches of these lovely Birdfoot Violets along my walking trail in the woods. The flowers are 1 to 1-1/2" across.

The Saarschleife, also known as the Great Bend in the Saar at Mettlach, is a water gap carved by the Saar River through a quartzite layer and today one of the most well-known tourist attractions of the Saarland.
One of the best flowers for pollinators is the Prairie Spiderwort which bloom late spring to early summer. The flowers are 1 - 1 ½" across and have three petals usually in blue to purple, but may also be in pink, white or red. Best viewed large.

This corn field is located on top of a hill along one of my walking trails. The farmer had already harvested the corn but a few stalks were still standing.

A mishmash of colours on a warm and sunny september day - captured at the premium walking trail Galgenkopftour near Trier / Germany.
Wild asters seen along a walking trail in the forest. These daisy-type flowers are ¾ to 1 inch across with 10 to 20 petals surrounding a yellow center disk that turns reddish with age. Petal colors range from pale blue to bright blue-violet, rarely pink or white. Best viewed large.

2022 starts with significantly higher temperatures than 2021.
So far the winter has once again been clearly too mild.

More than ever, I grab the moment. One that I want to store in my memory banks. My cousin and I are up there in years and we are both cancer survivors and I think we appreciate a special moment more than most.. everything I saw, seemed extra beautiful the colors and the textures in the ever moving water as I watched outside the window as we dined in a corner of the restaurant. The Golden Gate Bridge is famous and loved. Tourist come from all over the world to see it and the city.
"Manternacher Fiels" is a premium walking trail through the richly varied landscape near Manternach / Luxemburg.

Enjoyed a wonderful walk on one of our trails early one evening. As I love trees, I thought the light on these were nicely illuminated by the slowly setting sun.
Summer is coming to an end.
The colours are changing.
View on Schöndorf near Trier on a sunny and warm September evening.
Hiking toward the morning sun. About one and a half hours after local sunrise time. The trail is covered with pine tree leaves and is very comfortable to walk on.

In the middle of the Trier vineyards you can discover this unusual building called Thiels-Burg. It was built in 1910 by the Prussian director Hugo Thiel as a monument to to promote viticulture.
