We're away in Wisconsin to celebrate my parents' 60th wedding anniversary, but we had to leave Jasper back in Arizona. Missing our boy, so thought I'd post a picture of him doing what he loves just to make me smile.

Running with Dad in the sunshine. Could it get any more fun? Its starting to get warm in the afternoon so we try to maximize the mornings with Jasper.

Winged burning bush, also known as winged wahoo and winged euonymus, was introduced to the U.S. around 1860 as an ornamental plant for use in landscaping. Despite its invasive nature, it remains very popular and is widely sold for its hardiness, winged stems and intense red foliage in the fall.

I would wager this is the brother or sister of HooHah, the Baby Grackle, I found the other day. This Chipping Sparrow adopted him. He would fly in every few minutes with food and the Baby would eagerly chase him around. Then the Sparrow would put his head all the way in Baby's mouth and feed him. I thought maybe I should bring the Grackle to the Animal Hospital too. But he was not injured like his sibling. So I told myself, if WaHoo could fly I would let him make a go of it. I watched them for about an hour and the Baby became very comfortable with me, so I stroked its back with my finger and he flapped up a couple of feet onto the limb of a nearby bush. Geppetto met him there and fed him some more. I think he'll be flying well by tomorrow.

WaHoo and Geppetto: Day 1

A burst of color from a rather plain looking shrub most of the year. This is in the bittersweet family.

Also known as American wahoo, eastern wahoo, burning bush and hearts bursting with love.

The Cliff House opened in 1961 according to the obituary of its first owner. I don't think the building in the background, which was remodeled and expanded at some point in the last ten years, had anything to do with the motel, but maybe.

Today's story and sketch by me 1564, you may find this morning's story quite unbelievable, unless you are familiar with the many strange aquatic inhabitants of this Tropical Volcanic Planet we call Budahunga. Like the Watusi Wahoo I spotted while I was cruising over the Budahunga Lagoon, on one of my favorite Antigravity Personal Mobility Scooters, I spotted Her walking out of the Budahunga Lagoon. The Wahoo are normally shy creatures unless there showing off there mating dance moves, which she is doing, showing off the Watusi Slide as an admirer seems to be watching.

Native American Graveyard, Birch Hill Cemetery, Fairbanks Alaska. June 2018.

Another apparent incongruity, a Cleveland Indian's baseball cap with an American Indian caricature (Chief Wahoo) adorns a cross

in this Native graveyard.

While offensive to many Native Americans, others embrace (or reappropriate, or exploit) the symbol. It is not uncommon here to see Athabascan men wearing Chief Wahoo hats.

As a former Clevelander and long-time Indians fan I have long held the opinion that Chief Wahoo should be retired. Many Clevelander’s disagree, they use mostly ironic and moronic arguments related to tradition.

A tired looking sign, but the neon's completely intact. Wonder if it still lights at night.

Wahoo, NE, by the way, has been the "Home Office" of the Late Show with David Letterman since March 1996. Darryl F. Zanuck, co-Founder of 20th Century-Fox was born here in 1902.
