I was challenged to a B&W series of images. Some will be created by the camera, some in editing software.

The Buda Royal Castle (Budai Vár), Belgrád rakpart, Budapest, September 1, 2011
The oldest traces of buildings show the existence of a castle in 14th century (during the times of King Louis I) on what we today call the Castle Hill. This building was destroyed in an explosion in 1578, after transformation into an arsenal by Turks. The new residence, built by in the Habsburgs times, was the official residence of reigning family from 1791. Bad times came after the Spring of Nations, but in the late 19th century the castle was renovated and expanded. During the World War II the castle was severely damaged, but was rebuilt - today it houses several museums.
Throughout the summer of 1982, N&W GP7 No. 3459 was a regular working around Calumet Yard and the Auto Mixing Center. Here, in August 1982, the former Wabash unit handles racks and parts cars on the former Nickel Plate.
Three little birds, sat on my window.
And they told me I don't need to worry.
Summer came like cinnamon
So sweet,
Little girls double-dutch on the concrete.
Maybe sometimes, we got it wrong, but it's alright
And nothing seems to change, and it all will stay the same.
Oh, don't you hesitate.
Girl, put your records on, tell me your favourite song
You go ahead, let your hair down
Sapphire and faded jeans, I hope you get your dreams,
Just go ahead, let your hair down.
You're gonna find yourself somewhere, somehow.
Blue as the sky, sombre and lonely,
Sipping tea in the bar by the road side,
(just relax, just relax)
Don't you let those other boys fool you,
Gotta love that awful hairdo.
Maybe sometimes, we feel afraid, but it's alright
The more you stay the same, the more they seem to change.
Don't you think it's strange?
Girl, put your records on, tell me your favourite song
You go ahead, let your hair down
Sapphire and faded jeans, I hope you get your dreams,
Just go ahead, let your hair down.
You're gonna find yourself somewhere, somehow.
Just more than I could take, pity for pity's sake
Some nights kept me awake, I thought that I was stronger
When you gonna realise, that you don't even have to try any longer.
Do what you want to.
Girl, put your records on, tell me your favourite song
You go ahead, let your hair down
Sapphire and faded jeans, I hope you get your dreams,
Just go ahead, let your hair down.
Girl, put your records on, tell me your favourite song
You go ahead, let your hair down
Sapphire and faded jeans, I hope you get your dreams,
Just go ahead, let your hair down.
Oh, You're gonna find yourself somewhere, somehow.
Same shot as "Focus" but cropped square and converted to high contrast B&W. I did some touchup in Photoshop before converting to B&W, and did the B&W conversion in Aperture (I prefer to do as much as I can in Aperture because it doesn't change pixels).
Lighting details (copied from "Focus"): I'm using Alien Bees strobes... the key light is a B800 with the AB beauty dish, just to camera right, a foot or two above the model, angled downward slightly. There are two more B800's, one on either side of her head, pointed straight at her, each with a 10 degree grid. A B400 with a 20 degree grid provides the soft spotlight behind her.
I've also done a high-key treament of this image, see the next image in the set.

I first stumbled upon this very unusual property last winter, and posted a few pics of it. Today I was interested to explore the secluded garden area just east of the house. It's awesome...so full of architectural artifacts it might best be described as a Home for Wayward Terra Cotta. Check it out if you're ever in the 'hood.
