I'm turning 16 soon, and I can say for sure that Volkswagen has been my favorite car company.

This was a real treat. German-made Rabbits were only available for three years and change, and Rabbits of any Mark 1 Golf vintage are rare these days. This is a 1976 Rabbit, owned by one Joseph Polli, who lives in the Five County Metro area of southeastern Pennsylvania. It's in immaculate condition and it still runs like a charm, and he has the photos from shows outside the area to prove it. Look him up on his Instagram page.

Yet another R32, in a nice black lacquer, ready for the road . . . and probably having been driven a lot of miles on the way to Pottstown.

In the past I've owned numerous Volkswagens. My first when I was 17 was a Mk2 Golf.

The Quebec vanity plate says it all.
Yes, folks came all the way from Canada to take part in this show. And by the way, because the Canadian auto market parallels the U.S. market, the third-generation Golf had the three-door model available as a GTI only and the five-door model as a standard Golf only.

My rental car for the drive to Stuttgart- a Volkswagen Golf SportVan. A little larger than my Mazda 3 hatchback. Diesel powered - it made the trip from Amsterdam to Stuttgart (388 miles) one one tank of gas, with plenty to spare. It wasn't the fastest thing around, but it wasn't a total dog on the Autobahn either.
