Early voting at the Martin Luther King Junior University Union Bridge Lounge on the campus of Eastern Illinois University in Charleston, Illinois on October 28, 2020. (Jay Grabiec)
Yours truly, in my "Aggie for Kinky" gear. I signed the petition to put Kinky Friedman on the ballot, and I plan to vote for him in the gubenatorial election. "Why the hell not?"
I thought It was great-making it to early voting by 8:30AM. I arrived to find the biggest crowd I had ever seen-prior to Black Friday! So, I settled into the back of the line, thinking at least it's a cool morning by Florida standards. The hours wore on-by the time I reached the front of the Library bldg., it was nearly 11 AM-I was starting to cook. I hadn't prepared for a lengthy stay. I figured 2 -2 1/2 hours tops. It was a Carnival like atmosphere, as each affiliate for whichever seat shouted & handed out their portion of the Rainforest. I finally rounded the home stretch-the much sought after over-hang along the front of the Library. Along there, were tables and voting info from different candidates. Then I looked over to see Police officers walking over to one of them. When I got closer-I asked what happened. Apparently-Romney s' people called the Police because Obama's people were giving out Water??!! REALLY?????? All morning long there were people with wagons full of water, and people passing by with bags full of Granola bars, I had no idea they worked for Obama-but after cooking out there from 8:30AM-1PM I am grateful for the water and snack-I just can't believe someone thought that a Bottle of Water and a Granola Bar would swing the election-so much they called in the Police-or that the police had nothing better to do!!

All the voting booths were filled at the Union Pacific Depot polling site shortly after the 7 a.m. opening. Windell Scott was the second voter in line at the North Lawrence site on Election Day. Photo by Richard Gwin. See it on LJWorld.com here: www2.ljworld.com/photos/2010/nov/02/201832/
For the first time in my life, I believe, I stepped foot in a Baptist church: my voting precinct. I survived. First time for everything.

Parliament has been promised a meaningful vote on the Brexit deal. But what, exactly, is Parliament being asked to decide? And what happens if Parliament votes the deal down?
At our panel discussion Raphael Hogarth, Research Associate at the Institute for Government, presented key findings from Voting on Brexit, the Institute for Government’s new paper on Parliament and the Brexit deal.
The paper sets out what the Government has to do in Parliament to get its deal though, and give effect to the withdrawal agreement in domestic law. It also identifies a number of risks to the timetable.
The vote, the politics and the constitutional implications was discussed by our panel:
The Rt Hon. Dominic Grieve QC MP, Conservative MP for Beaconsfield and former Attorney General
The Rt Hon. the Baroness Smith of Basildon, Shadow Leader of the House of Lords and Shadow Spokesperson (Northern Ireland)
George Parker, Political Editor, Financial Times
This event was chaired by Dr Hannah White, Director of Research at the Institute for Government.

Received the new issue of Rolling Stone Magazine (still don't know who gave us the subscription but "mahalo"). Athan tried to smile like "Orock Obama" (as he calls him). Consider this my endorsement.

If only he preferred the other party, though. Bummer- but otherwise, I can't say anything critical about him! (I can't really say ANYTHING about him.) King County Voters' pamphlet)

I VOTE NOBODY
Do you know that there is a system in our constitution, as per the 1969 act, in section “49-O” that a person can go to the polling booth, confirm his identity, get his finger marked and convey the presiding election officer that he doesn’t want to vote anyone!
Yes such a feature is available, but obviously these seemingly notorious leaders have never disclosed it. This is called “49-O”.
Why should you go and say “I VOTE NOBODY”… because, in a ward, if a candidate wins, say by 123 votes, and that particular ward has received “49-O” votes more than 123, then that polling will be cancelled and will have to be re-polled. Not only that, but the candidature of the contestants will be removed and they cannot contest the re-polling, since people had already expressed their decision on them.
This would bring fear into parties and hence look for genuine candidates for their parties for election. This would change the way, of our whole political system… it is seemingly surprising why the election commission has not revealed such a feature to the public….
Please spread this news to as many as you know… Seems to be a wonderful weapon against corrupt parties in India… show your power, expressing your desire not to vote for anybody, is even more powerful than voting… so don’t miss your chance.
So either vote, or vote not to vote (vote 49-O) and pass this info on…
my poem dedicated to Mr Pritish Nandy for his article on Bombay Times today
we the people
have to act now
before it is too late
we have to use the power
of our vote
to fight a social menace
that stands hand folded at our gate
our safety our security
more important
than the z category
to throw their weight
satisfying political
compulsions
of each other
including the
party
they represent
the will of the people
they desecrate
political chaos
political apathy
we nor god
would create
mumbai is about big bucks
power real estate
a finger in every pie
prime interest rate
tears on the soul of Maharashtra
our beloved home and state
heads did roll
new heads on the same body's
rusty armored plate
I WILL VOTE NOBODY
change in the system
is a must at any rate
on this the august judiciary
and the public
must debate
a verdict
we await
