Hiking around the amusingly and unusual lahar formations of Mt Pinatubo is a wonderful experience. Its peaceful crater lake provides the highlight to the trek.

Apologies for the name of this one!

Sakurajima (Japanese: 桜島, literally "Cherry blossom Island") is an active stratovolcano, formerly an island and now a peninsula, in Kagoshima Prefecture in Kyushu, Japan. The lava flows of the 1914 eruption connected it with the Ōsumi Peninsula. It is the most active volcano in Japan. - Wikipedia

Uno de esos momentos inolvidables que he tenido la suerte de disfrutar....

Fagradalsfjall volcano.

Performed by Nature...amazing show

This lighthouse on ilha do faial, Azores islands, is situated right by the side of what is left of Capelinhos volcano. The Capelinhos (from Capelo + -inhos diminutive, which literally means "little Capelos" or the "little cape") is a monogenetic volcano located on the western coast of the island of Faial in the Azores. It is part of the larger Volcanic Complex of Capelo, that includes 20 scoria cones and lava fields that are aligned west-northwest to east-southeast from the Cabeço Gordo caldera. Although the name "Capelinhos" is associated with the volcano, it technically refers to the western cape of the parish of Capelo.

A volcanic eruption lasted for 13 months, from September 27, 1957 until October 24, 1958, which may have been two overlapping volcanic eruptions. While enlarging the land by 2.4 km², it spawned 300 seismic events, hurled ash 1 km, destroyed 300 houses in the parishes of Capelo and Praia do Norte and caused the evacuation of 2,000 people (emigration to the US and Canada). On October 25, the volcano entered a period of dormancy. It is a part of an active fissural volcanic complex which creates multiple seismic and volcanic events.

Volcanic Eruption, Litli-Hrutur, Iceland (12th July 2023)

WOW. I cannot tell you how nervous I was in flying my drone this close to the crater of this erupting volcano in Iceland (12th July 2023) especially with a high wind pushing it towards the crater. However I felt that it was worth the risk in sending it up because I became absolutely transfixed with being able to see directly into the crater.

Experiencing the sound, the sight, the heat, of such a powerful natural phenomena is one that will stay with me forever. I felt so incredibly small standing there looking at one of the most amazing shows mother nature can put on. It really does put things into perspective I can tell you.

The latest eruption in Geldingadalir Iceland is a magnificent spectacle.

Today is World Bicycle Day and this photograph has absolutely nothing to do with that, unless you take your mountain bike onto a lava flow ... which is not recommended. Geldingadalir, Iceland, April 2021

Fagradalsfjall, Iceland, 2022

Seldom we are made to understand the magnitude of those powers that boil beneath our feet. It is our last day on Iceland on only yesterday anoher volcanic eruption started 30 km away from Reykjavik. Our luck, because it is a rather small eruption of a rather small volcano that is not situated beneath a glacier. Unlike 2010 air traffic will not be halted.

From the volcano eruption in Geldingadalur, Iceland. This is from my second trip there, in May in a flight. The crader is much bigger and the eruption is pulsating but the lava flow is steady. The area I walked on in the first time is now under lava. It was snowing most of the time, making photoshooting not easy.

Afternoon look at the Geldingadalir volcano area. It was more dramatic when the sun was down, but still quite a sight in the day. The eruption started in March 2021 and lasted six months. It was very fortunate to have been able to visit when multiple vents were active. Grindavik, Iceland, April 2021

Twilight was the most dramatic time to photograph the volcano. The lava glowing against the darkening sky made for a great show. Geldingadalir, Iceland, April 2021

The Ice lagoon at Jökulsárlón, Taken at 05.07am on the 21st of October 2014 in Iceland, a moment in time is captured here as this shows the light Aurora and the light of the fissure eruption at Holuhraun which was 60 miles away from the lagoon on the other side of the Vatnajokull, this happened in 2014/2015 when I was in Southern Iceland.

One of the Aeolian Islands in Tyrrhenian Sea, with live volcano in the middle of it. It is constantly active with minor eruptions. Intervals between eruptions range from a few minutes to a few hours. When we were there, it took about 25 mins between eruptions.

The plume of smoke doesn't seem to be big, but when we consider that Stromboli rises 926 m above sea level then we see that the plume is about I'd say 150-200m.

Twilight and the night is when the volcano looks its best. You can really see the glow of the lava river at that time. Geldingadalir Volcano, Iceland, April 2021

Monuments of Geological Heritage

The Petrified Forest was created during the intense volcanic activity that occurred throughout the greater northeastern Aegean region 20 million years ago. The volcanic eruptions caused enormous quantities of lava and ash to flow and cover the centre of the island of Lesbos.

Watching the molten lava was a most interesting experience. The flow would slowly move along, and then bursts of activity would happen. Here, lava starts dancing and spattering along the edge of the line. It only lasted a few moments before calming down again. Geldingaladir Eruption, Iceland, April 2021

From the volcano eruption in Geldingadalur, Iceland

Given there is an eruption at Geldingadular in Rekaynes that I can only watch online, I have decided to share another shot from the Ice lagoon taken at Jökulsárlón at 5.15am on the 21st of October 2014. A night shot in Iceland showing the Aurora and the light of the fissure eruption at Holuhraun which was 60 miles away from the lagoon on the other side of the Vatnajokull, this eruption happened in 2014/2015 when I was ln Southern Iceland on my first trip to this amazing country, enjoy this 30 second exposure.

I had looked at getting to Holuhraun but the roads were shut and the helicopters were hugely expensive, I am so jealous of all the people I follow on flickr who have got there in the last week!

All of the vents erupting at one time. It was easy to get three at a time, but to get all five was more challenging as it didn't happen very often. Geldingadalir Volcano, Iceland, April 2021
