Ebringen and its vineyards...
This village is one of many lovely wine villages in my region, situated along the 'Baden wine- route'.
It is located about 5 km (3 mi) south of Freiburg and belongs to the Freiburg metropolitan area.
Surrounded by meadows, forests and in the middle of vineyards it is a very nice place.
The entire area of the municipality is located in the Schönberg range, foothills of the Black Forest, which is geologically a part of the Rhine Rift Valley. The Schönberg is characterized by a very diverse surface geology from all periods of the Mesozoic, Paleogene volcanism and glacial löss deposits.Ebringen is known for the oldest recorded viticulture between Freiburg and Basel.
Viticulture has most likely been present since the Roman era in the first century AD, as ruins of a Roman grange were found in the Ebringen area.the earliest written record for viticulture dates from the early 8th century.
The Markgräflerland (Baden) is well known for its Chasselas grapes.(Gutedel in German)

Although Winter is knocking at the door meanwhile, I want to share some more images from autumn.
In the middle of the Trier vineyards you can discover this unusual building called Thiels-Burg. It was built in 1910 by the Prussian director Hugo Thiel as a monument to to promote viticulture.
The viewpoint is right on the Moselsteig, so you will pass the point during the walk. The Moselschleife is probably the most striking point of the Moselle region Traben-Trarbach Kröv, because here you can see the meanders of the Moselle in their full glory. From the Kröv side you can see Wolf and the ruins of the Wolfer Kloster as far as Traben-Trarbach and Kröv. Surrounded by vineyards and forests, the Moselle meanders through the Moselle Valley, forming a scenic loop.

... I initially had not planned to participate this week as I just came back from holidays, but then I saw the wires of an already harvested vineyard during a Sunday outing and couldn't resist :)

The rich colors of the vines in the late October sunshine caught my eye......contrasting with the deep greens of the tall redwood trees that border this vineyard.
Anderson Valley has developed into a major wine growing region of Northern California and is known especially for its Pinot grapes. This variety thrives in the upland areas due to the cooling effect of the fog that often develops along the valley. This happens when cold air coming in from the coast hits the hot dry valley air and condenses.
Throughout the valley tasting rooms beckon wine enthusiasts as they travel along the winding mountain road that cuts through to the coast, following the Navarro River. This narrow road used to be a stagecoach road that connected the inland valleys to the rugged, remote, Mendocino Coast.

A white wine specialty of Vienna is Gemischter Satz ("mixed set"). This "is a wine term in German equivalent to a field blend, which means that grapes of different varieties are planted, harvested and vinified together."

I took this picture near Salmannsdorf, which is part of Döbling, the 19th district, last Saturday, a short time before harvesting.
I see this very attractive Château through the trees when we're walking along the former railway line between Sillans-la-Cascade and Pontevès. I wanted to get a photo of it but wasn't sure I could capture it very well because it seemed to be hidden somewhat behind trees from one of only two vantage points I had but when I came home and uploaded what I had taken I was pleasantly surprised. It's called 'Château Duvivier' and the following is an extract from the internet. It was in German so I used the translation facility on my iMac:
"At the beginning - 1990 - stood a run-down castle in the deepest Provence and the big dream of a holistic organic castle. Today, Château Duvivier enjoys the status of a model business in organic viticulture. In the midst of the beguilingly beautiful Provence with oak forests and natural meadows with thyme, lavender and rosemary, improved methods and new grape varieties are constantly being tested in order to continuously optimize viticulture according to the Delinat method. It is clear that the innovative spirit on Duvivier also benefits from their own wines."

The Pula Arena (Croatian: Pulska Arena; Italian: Arena di Pola) is a Roman amphitheatre located in Pula, Croatia. It is the only remaining Roman amphitheatre to have four side towers entirely preserved. It was constructed between 27 BC and AD 68, and is among the world's six largest surviving Roman arenas.
Furthermore, it is the most famous monument of the city of Pula. It was once the site of gladiator fights. The Arena was built during the reign of Emperor Vespasian, at the same time as the magnificent Colosseum in Rome.
The ground plan is elliptical, the longer axis measuring about 130 m and the shorter one about 100 m. Gladiator fights took place in the central flat area called the arena, while the spectators could sit on the stone tiers or stand in the gallery. It is believed that the Amphitheatre could seat about 20,000 spectators. Local limestone was used for its construction. In the Middle Ages it was the site of knights tournaments and fairs.
Today, it is the venue for many different events — Pula Film Festival, various concerts, opera, ballet, sports competitions… since its capacity is about 5000 spectators.
The underground passages, once used by the gladiators, nowadays host a regular exhibition of viticulture and olive growing in Istria in ancient times.

The Ribeira Sacra is one of the most symbolic examples of what is known as heroic viticulture. This term refers to the conditions of the terrain, which make growing and tending vines especially difficult and which force wine-growers and producers to overcome vertigo on the hillsides.
Distribution of vineyards down terraces or hillsides to preserve the slope of the terrain - which can reach gradients of 100%- creates a space where mechanisation is impossible.
With the exception of the odd track in some vineyards to transport crates, winegrowers’ and wine producers’ hands, arms and backs do all the work here, and moving through vines requires true acrobatic skill. Heroic viticulture is most symbolically represented in the grape-harvesting period.
Since 2011, the CERVIM (Centre for Research, Environmental Sustainability and Advancement of Mountain Viticulture) has offered a specific seal to define this type of viticulture, which only a few Spanish Designations of Origin can use. One of these is Ribeira Sacra.
The Stellenbosch, Paarl and Franschhoek valleys form the Cape Winelands, the larger of the two main wine growing regions in South Africa. The South African wine industry produces about 1,000,000,000 litres of wine annually. Stellenbosch is the primary location for viticulture and viticulture research. Professor Perold was the first Professor of Viticulture at Stellenbosch University. The Stellenbosch Wine Route established in 1971 by Frans Malan from Simonsig, Spatz Sperling from Delheim and Neil Joubert from Spier.
The region has a mediterranean climate with hot dry summers and cool wet winters. Stellenbosch lies at the foot of the Cape Fold mountain range, which provides soil favourable to viticulture. Grapes grown in this area are mainly used for wine production, as opposed to table grapes. The region possesses a wide range of soils in the area, from light, sandy soils to decomposed granite. Stellenbosch Cabernet Sauvignon is beginning to get a good reputation as a fine wine.
Bremm was already a wine village with steep vineyards in Roman times. The vineyards of Bremm are located on the steepest slope in Europe. This slope, the Bremmer Calmont, has a gradient of no less than 65 degrees. Machine processing is not possible due to the steepness, so manual work is required. Bremm itself has a historic village image with old half-timbered houses, squares and fountains. The most famous house is the Storchenhaus. The late Gothic Laurentiuskirche has a beautiful baroque altar.
Steep on the Calmont From the village centre, a walking route with ladders and chains leads to the top of the 380-metre-high Calmont. Once at the top, you have a phenomenal view of the entire Moselle region. It is a true experience but not suitable for everyone.
