Day 10 of #inktober - prompt: Nomadic
For this prompt on nomadic I thought first of the desert people who move with their humped animals.
The inktober challenge is very simple. Just draw the prompt of the day in ink and publish it using the inktober hashtags. After a few years where I passed my turn, I am trying this 2024 edition even though it will be a month full of activities and commitments. I chose the free-style of the continuous line to represent the prompt, without fuss or colors.

Day 9 of #inktober - prompt: Sun
The sun is the celestial body of my zodiac sign. When it is at its zenith it is a ball of fire, difficult to look at, but so simple to draw.

It turns out that in a little under two weeks, I'll be teaching a course on leadership to 7th graders. They've already gone through an elaborate course over the last two years in teamwork and communication... and the 8th grade gets a course devoted to thinking, organization, and reaching for goals. That leaves a precarious middle ground that I'm not at all sure how to bridge. So I'm giving this basic framework to the class... today. I think I'll have to make some lists of elements that are good, though, on ... you guessed it... index cards!
There's definitely some overlap between the 8th grade curriculum and the 6th grade curriculum already. Figuring out how to bridge that gap so that kids can learn new things in this class while still move forward in the next class to a greater awareness of themselves as leaders is going to be tricky.
Any advice about moving forward in teaching this class?

CONFLICT: EXPRESSION/RESOLUTION/SUSPENSION
Artists structure space. The grid, the line, and the all-over pattern are three types of image structure that suspend conflict by denying a center-of-influence. Primary Structures/ Multiple Repetitive Units/ Randomness depicts a grid, which denies a center-of-influence.
Temple Grandin’s talk just went online, one of my favorites.
She talks about her autistic mind — how she thinks in pictures and sees how an animal sees, unfettered by language. With this cognitive empathy, she has designed new cattle-handling facilities, through which most of U.S. cattle now pass.
In watching her talk, it might help to know that PETA gave her an award stating:
“She is widely considered the world’s leading expert on the welfare of cattle and pigs.”

“If by some magic, autism had been eradicated from the face of the earth, then men would still be socializing in front of a wood fire at the entrance to a cave. Who do you think made the first stone spears?? It was a challenge to take visual notes of this 90-minute online talk by Matthieu Kleinschmager on "How to organise online meetings for better participation and results". Matthieu offered so much information, tips, and anecdotes during the session. He repeatedly stressed the importance of being first meaningful and purposeful, then to look at tools. I cannot agree more!

A rhino? It has two horns, a long snout and two funny ears. But I had to look at an image to be able to draw it with an uninterrupted continuous line.

Day 30 of #inktober - prompt: Violin
I continue this challenge with each prompt drawn in black marker with a continuous line, and I enjoy listening to the notes of a Niccolò Paganini as a continuous musical flow as well.
