"ART is just another way of keeping a JOURNAL" ~ Pablo Picasso

For six word story.

We thought it would be fun to share another way we capture special moments. Here is a 'PHOTOGRAPH' of a small calendar my husband keeps on a daily basis. If one takes a moment to look at each day, some of my photos will correspond to that particular one inch square!

For example, taken August 9th, uploaded August 10th:

Another example, taken on August 13th:

Before going to bed, I created this miniature canvas for a review of a recently purchased beach charm. Upon awakening, I studied my piece, trying to compose a title.

Spontaneously, after googling different meanings for the common beach ball, the following description appeared with an interesting analogy that could definitely support and give insight to my nightmare. This experience is not uncommon to intensive work I’ve done with visual journaling.

“With one hand, you're holding a beach ball underwater. This beach ball represents something that you've been actively avoiding or repressing, like an unwanted emotion (e.g., shame, fear, or anger), life experience (e.g., criticism or social rejection), or memory (e.g., prior trauma).”

Sometimes images are all that take shape . . .

Well, if anything can get me out of my funk, it's a serendipitous *play* with images and artifacts on Sliders Sunday. Because, as is always the case with *visual journaling* . . . the subconscious brings a lot of unresolved issues into the light.

Not sure why the piece of rock from a seawall, in the shape of an upside down Vermont, appealed to me, nor why I had a need to purchase a *Swiss Knife* enclosed in a hand-made leather case, but here you have it! Another of my favorite *PHOTages* . . .

The *Septarian* stone bear was bought at a Southwestern shop years ago, just because I liked it! Come to find out it has interesting meanings as a healing stone beneficial to overall health and well being. It nurtures and grounds. Septarian (Dragon Stone) - Location: Morocco) brings calming energies which have a nurturing feel to them and can bring feelings of joy and spiritual uplifting. It is said to bring unconscious foreknowledge needed by the user to help him or her always be prepared for what is coming up. . It is also quite useful in determining the direction in which to progress. Septarian loves to be held emanating a loving kind and sincere energy pattern. It is said to be a speaking stone and enhances communication on multiple levels.

So, believe it or not, I'm going to pay a lot of attention to this energy for the next few days!

Blessings to all . . . Stay Safe and SANE . . . Big Hugs all around.

It's been awhile since we shared a 'PHOTOGRAPH' of a small calendar my husband doodles on a daily basis. This is just another FUN way we keep a visual journal. A few of my flickr photos will correspond to a particular one inch square post! If you have a sec, click on the images below and follow their comments!

Am almost finished with my reviews and creations which have kept me too busy for much flickering . . . but art has always been my therapy, so enough said! This little journal is 20 years old and contains all sorts of fun ideas, all based on stitching . . . today I decided to create a clasped closure to hold it all together!

Fun to revisit the past in images!

I should be able to catch up with visiting soon!

Meanwhile, another weekend is almost here!

The blue is cropped from a sky photo I took today and the orange is from a sunset photo.

A few people have been asking me about journaling techniques. This was given to me by one of my summer campers a few years ago. All I remember is her saying, "This reminds me of you, Mrs. L." I have it in a frame in my office as inspiration. Try spilling some words today! Enjoy!

“Be true to your work, your word, and your friend.” ~ Henry David Thoreau ~

“A word is dead when it is said. Some say. I say it just begins to live that day.” ~ Emily Dickinson ~

“Another word for creativity is courage.” ~ George Prince ~

“What's another word for Thesaurus?” ~ Stephen Wright ~

“For just when ideas fail, a word comes in to save the situation.” ~ Johann Wolfgang von Goethe ~

“The word impossible is not in my dictionary.” ~ Napoleon Bonaparte ~

“If every word I said could make you laugh, I'd talk forever.” ~ anon ~

A page I worked on in Hanne's book, as well as on top of one of her prepared collaged pages.

I added encaustic medium on top and then was able to do a black and white transfer on the wax. I wrote in a partial quote from Annie Dillard :

"Our life is a faint tracing on the surface of mystery, like the idle, curved tunnels of leaf miners on the surface of a leaf..."

Sea muscles were all washed up ~

NO LIFEGUARD ON DUTY

said the fly to the muscle:

“The only kind of seafood I trust

is the fish stick,

a totally featureless fish

that doesn't have eyeballs or fins.”

~ Dave Barry ~

feeling silly again...have been swatting flies that somehow invaded our loft....and then, this morning, fell in the garage on our lawnmower and majorly bruised some muscles....so...this image felt very appropriate to post as a journaling entry for today.

and now, revisiting, I just noticed I used a black and blue border . . . how appropriate . . . see the power of working from the subconscious!

Who would believe that so small a space could contain the images of the whole universe? ~ Leonardo da Vinci ~

Ironically, this morning I was responding to a post by a **flickr friend about being kind. This afternoon my cousin sent me an e-mail in response to a book I had recommended to him. When he googled it on Amazon, he came across my page when he "Looked Inside" . . . what a surprise for me! I never knew this was available as part of the write-up! There are also other contributors featured!

The creative process is quite astonishing in helping one's healing and growth, not just to make pretty things! And, one does NOT have to be an artist to participate!

Yes, serendipity reigned once again!

Just thought I'd share a bit of trivia and also, a reminder to be kind, not only to others, but to oneself!

I'm in such a silly mood tonight! As per tradition, we went to the beach today, being Easter Sunday. It was FREEZING, so we spent very little time by the ocean. On the way back to our car, I snapped this shot of the Watch Hill Lighthouse in the distance. Nothing was particularly good about this capture, so I played a lot, and before my eyes, it started to

"grow" and snow! Just enjoy! And, for a quotation, I couldn't resist:

“It was a curious experience ...

I felt nothing,

and I felt odd feeling nothing.

Absolutely no emotion whatsoever.

I found him slightly pathetic.

He said:

'I have waited a long time for this moment.'

I replied:

'Well, you might have sent me a postcard in the meantime.' ”

I love the word "vision" because it has meaning on different levels. The obvious one for me (having just gone through two eye surgeries for cataracts with a hugely remarkable outcome) is the blessing of sight, of being able to see color, form, detail, depth, light... Perception of color saturation and detail were gradually lost to me as the cataracts grew and thickened. I am so very blessed to have good vision again.

But vision also refers to:

1. Unusual competence in discernment or perception; intelligent foresight: a leader of vision.

2. The manner in which one sees or conceives of something.

3. A mental image produced by the imagination.

4. The mystical experience of seeing.

All of these are blessings too!

they just shine.”

Life is eternal,

love is immortal

and death is only a horizon.

Life is eternal as we move into the light

and the horizon is nothing

save the limit of our sight.”

to live,

to operate at any level

without leaving traces,

seemingly meaningless

Something I've worked on and off on over the past two years. It's more like a drawing than an art journal page, but it's in my art journal.
