Simulations of the action occurring on our Sun shows downflows: plumes of cooler gas that sink away from the surface of the Sun.
This is related to my work at Kodak where I developed a technique that I coined as "streak visualization".
At the time this industry magazine had come out my work in the technique was still being kept "secret", so I was quite surprised when I saw this cover image highlighting the technique. (I didn't even recognize the image as coming from my work, but I was just as certain the image was created using identical techniques.) At this point we hadn't disclosed my work to anyone outside of the company at the time.
It later turns out that MIT's Media Lab had coincidentally developed the same technique in isolation, but upon further investigation it was determined that we had the "prior art" - i.e.: we had come up with the idea first...
