Artist Statement:
The Host Never Spoke explores the breakdown of hospitality into control. The figure, adorned and blind, is positioned as a symbol of ritualized power — but the rituals no longer serve communion, only appearance. The sweets are untouched. The cups, stacked, suggest repetition without renewal. I wanted this piece to feel like a mask that began as luxury and ended as armor. The silence of the host is not peace — it’s refusal. Or maybe exhaustion.
This is not a still life. It’s a stillness with teeth.
