Sunset at DFW airport which I believe actually has sits between Fort Worth and Dallas thus why it’s named Dallas Fort Worth Airport. Loved all the lovely warm tones. A extended long travel day as a couple of flight cancellations, now a delay of hour and forty six minutes on the last leg from DFW and I’ll actually be touching down at home technically tomorrow! Delay allowed me to download image to my IPhone and edit it and post it on the same day a rarity for me. - [ ] #developportdev @gothamtomato @developphotonewsletter @omsystem.cameras #excellent_america #omsystem @bheventspace @bhphoto @adorama @tamracphoto @tiffencompany #usaprimeshot @visitdallasfortworthtx @dfwairport @visittexas #sunsetphotography

Dallas, the big D, the largest city in the state of Texas is place that I have visited many times over the years, the first time many years ago visiting my dear cousin & her husband back in my pre-med stage while an undergrad student. My road in life turned a different way that did not include medical school, but I would again via a new role at work end up going to Dallas where my new boss was located and over the last 2 decades more trips. Bank of America Plaza is a late-modernist tower in Dallas near Dallas’s historic west end, a stone’s throw from Dealey Plaza where a little less than a month after my birth in 1963 sitting President John F. Kennedy fatally shot in the head while his motorcade made its way west. It's distinct 2 miles of radiant LED lighting give the Bank of America Plaza its signature look once the sun sets and it is the tallest building in Dallas. This image captured yesterday evening has blue led outline, I’ve usually seen it in green so I’m sure the blue stands for something. - [x] #developportdev @gothamtomato @developphotonewsletter @omsystem.cameras #excellent_america #omsystem @bheventspace @bhphoto @adorama @tamracphoto @tiffencompany #usaprimeshot #tamractales @kehcamera @mpbcom #omd #microfourthirds #micro43photography @visit_dallas @visittexas @bankofamericaplaza

Beautiful skies almost every morning in Lewisville Texas looking east towards Plano Texas. Some mornings the skies appeared to be on fire, a beautiful myriad of warm reds, oranges and yellow with ambient temperatures in the triple digits daily during this stay last August, just grueling weather. iPhone 13 Pro 5.7mm #developportdev @gothamtomato @developphotonewsletter @omsystem.cameras #excellent_america #omsystem @bheventspace @bhphoto @adorama @tamracphoto @tiffencompany #usaprimeshot #tamractales @kehcamera @mpbcom @visittexas @visitlewisvilletexas @apple #iphone13pro

This image taken from near the recreated one-room cabin originally built by Dallas founding father John Neely Bryan in Dallas County Historical Plaza on the West End of Dallas Texas features the Reunion Tower and historic Red Courthouse. The Reunion Tower was built in 1978 as part of a citywide urban redevelopment plan, it stands at 561 feet and features a stalk-like base with large glittery sphere on top. It has a remarkable observation deck in that sphere that provides an incredible view of downtown Dallas and beyond. I first visited the tower in 1984 and then again in 2023 almost 40 years later. It had been closed for quite some time for renovations. In this image taken at night shows some of the 259 color-changing LED’s on the sphere’s exterior that adorn the skyline with a myriad of patterns and color changes. The Reunion name is attributed to John Scovell, then-CEO of Woodbine Development Corporation a local who was fascinated with La Réunion, a 19th-century French settlement founded by followers of the socialist utopian thinker Charles Fourier not far from this site whose name was also applied to the Reunion Arena which was the former home of the Dallas Mavericks NBA team, long gone now Reunion Park. The Dallas downtown area from the Reunion Tower Geo-Deck, taken this evening after heavy rain last, a stressful and long day, made my way down to Dallas trying to time it at blue hour post rain I gambled that it would be clear. This was one that I really liked and out of norm I’m posting on the same day I captured an image because it required essentially no tweaking. @gothamtomato #developportdev @developphotonewsletter @omsystem.cameras #excellent_america #omsystem @bheventspace @bhphoto @adorama @tamracphoto @tiffencompany #usaprimeshot #tamractales @mpbcom @kehcamera @visit_dallas @visittexas #omd #olympus #microfourthirds #micro43 #micro43photography

The lit arches of the Margaret McDermott Bridge in Dallas Texas part of Interstate 30 which is just west of Downtown Dallas and crosses the Trinity River. The Margaret McDermott Bridge which was built as part of the Trinity River Project was named after one of Dallas’s most beloved philanthropist Margaret McDermott, the wife of the founder of Texas Instruments who was the first individual to make a personal financial contribution which ensured the city of Dallas was able to secure the services of Santiago Calatrava the architect that designed the Oculus Travel Hub in the World Trade Center in New York City. Margaret McDermott was born in 1912 and lived to be 106 years of age. The Buffalo Bayou is a slow moving 53-mile river that originates in Katy Texas, flows right through the heart of Houston through the Houston Ship channel flowing into the Galveston Bay and Gulf of Mexico. This image taken in Buffalo Bayou Park near downtown, captures the many steel & glass skyscrapers that make up downtown Houston, the fourth largest city in the United States that is unique because it lacks the stringent building ordinances of other major US cities. Dallas’s historic West End is a historic area in Dallas Texas that hails back Fayetteville Tennessee native John Neely Bryan’s trading post founded in 1841 on the eastern bank of the Trinity river considered the location of the modern founding of Dallas. A replica of Neely Bryan’s single room cabin sits in Founders Plaza just east of Dealy Plaza commemorating the city’s founder actually about a ¼ mile from the actual location and about a block from the arch in this image that denotes the entryway to Dallas’s West End. In 1872 the same area had railways by the Houston & Texas Central Railroad constructed, followed the next year by the Texas & Pacific Railroad which bifurcated the West End into two sections and caused a growth in population and the building a many structures to support the burgeoning railroad companies. In 1975, a decade post the tragic assassination of President John F. Kennedy in Dealy Plaza, many civic leaders wanted to wipe the slate clean and demolish the structures associated with its bloodshed. Mayor Erik Jonsson & merchant Stanley Marcus vehemently opposed that idea arguing that these brick structures were of significant historic value. With their grassroots efforts, in 1975 the City of Dallas created the West End. The iconic Bank of America Tower in Downtown Dallas, the tallest skyscraper in the big D rises 921 feet with its distinct late-modernist styling is a Dallas landmark. At night the two mile of radiant LED outline the sleek profile of the building, usually green but this trip when I happened to be there it was lit in blue. The Bank of America Plaza and tower opened in 1985. Bank of America, the tower’s principal tenant has already announced that it will be leaving, thus the proprietor and the city of Dallas are scrambling, planification of some redevelopment of the area and the configuration of the space within are currently happening. Working late after an arduous day at the lab, the skies over Lewisville Texas were quite lovely as I departed lab, so I paused to capture the sun as it light cracked through the distant tree. Lewisville was incorporated into a city 1925 with a population of 850 served by 5 cotton gins and 2 saloons. In the 1960’s the US Corp of Engineers build the Lewisville Dam and more land was annexed to the city. Today the population at the last census was over 110,000 which is considerable growth in less than a century as it has become a mecca residential development and business development. #developportdev @gothamtomato @developphotonewsletter @omsystem.cameras #excellent_america #iphone13pro @bheventspace @bhphoto @adorama @tamracphoto @tiffencompany #usaprimeshot #tamractales @apple @kehcamera @mpbcom @visittexas @visitlewisvilletexas #sunset #dusk

Simple yet powerful, the old Stars and Stripes in the wee hours of the morning in Lewisville, evokes pride, yes there’s a bit of controversy, but when when looking at the brief history of this nation just under 250 years, from the debates Hamilton and Jefferson at the nations birth, a bloody civil war that pitted brother against brother, a slow progress towards equality for all that was unprecedented in the world that is not nearly done turmoils and debate go hand in hand pride and liberty that make the United States a singular nation on this planet earth. - [x] #developportdev @gothamtomato @developphotonewsletter @omsystem.cameras #excellent_america #iphone13pro @bheventspace @bhphoto @adorama @tamracphoto @tiffencompany #usaprimeshot #tamractales @mpbcom @kehcamera @apple @visittexas

The beautifully lit spire and clock face of the Mercantile Bank Building on Main Street in downtown Dallas Texas was built in 1943 for the Mercantile Bank which was founded in Dallas by R. L. Thornton and three friends in 1916 and grew to be one of the largest financial institutions in Dallas & the Southwest. The 36 story Art Moderne style skyscraper was designed by Walter W. Ahlschlager of NY who was the architect that designed the Roxy Theater in New York City. The Mercantile Bank Building was the only major American office building completed during World War II, and was the tallest building West of the Mississippi River for over a decade. The 115 foot tower was added in 1947 and used as a broadcast tower for KERA. The building when it opened featured a massive marbled lobby with Art Deco wood murals by California artist Millare Sheets which were the largest in world at the time of its completion and were saved by Dallas investor Tim Headington when Cleveland-based Forest City Enterprises purchased the building and began converting the former office building into a residential building now referred to as the Merc. The beautiful distinct Dallas Texas Skyline, with the prominent Bank of America Plaza skyscraper with it lights blue this past week again as in a previous trip from the West Commerce Street Bridge or Viaduct that spans the Trinity River. The lights line both sides of the West Commerce Street Bridge that was built in 1930 by the Austin Bridge Company of Dallas designed by Francis Dey Hughes. The entire structure is composed of 3 main spans, a total of 1,969 feet in length, a metal cantilever stringer bridge with spans supported by concrete T-beam’s. This image was taken near the Trinity Overlook Park that my west coast damsel and I had discovered on a prior trip to the Big D earlier this summer, so I returned to get some images from the actual Commerce Street Bridge. Historically speaking, in 1908 a calamitous flood occurred when the flood waters of the Trinity River marked the flood gauge at 52.6 feet in Dallas. Floodway levees were built in the 1920’s, then improved up by the Army Corp of Engineers in the 1950’s. The Trinity River when John Neely Bryan first visited what would become Dallas in 1839 was much wider that what my damsel and I saw in our visit to Trinity Overlook Park, but over the last 90 years particularly the portion located by downtown has been relocated, channelized, reduced and straightened. There is a project and study sponsored by the city of Dallas to possibly restore some of the original contours of the Trinity, to mitigate the unnatural erosion, loss of aquatic & riparian habitats and open it as natural recreation area. #developportdev @gothamtomato @developphotonewsletter @omsystem.cameras #excellent_america #omsystem @bheventspace @bhphoto @adorama @tamracphoto @tiffencompany #usaprimeshot #tamractales @kehcamera @mpbcom @cokinfilters @visit_dallas @visittexas #omd #olympus #micro43 #micro43photography
