A luxurious kaiseki course featuring a whole tai sea bream and a spicy lobster sashimi platter, surrounded by delicate chawan mushi and crisp tempura. A celebration of Japanese hospitality, where every element is prepared to honor the natural sweetness of the sea.

Ritsurin Koen (栗林公園) is a landscape garden in Takamatsu City, built by the local feudal lords during the early Edo Period, 1603 to 1868. Considered one of the best gardens in Japan, it is often suggested that Ritsurin Koen deserves a spot on the list of the "three most beautiful gardens of Japan" alongside Kanazawa's Kenrokuen, Mito's Kairakuen, and Okayama's Korakuen.

The spacious park features many ponds, hills, historic trees and beautiful pavilions divided into a Japanese style garden in the south and western style garden in the north. The gardens are set in front of wooded Mt. Shiun which serves as a wonderful background and great example of borrowed scenery.

The last day in Tokyo was spend roaming around Odaiba island. I have seen the Fuji Television Network building many times, but have never been underneath the futuristic Hachitama Spherical Observation Room. From this angle, it looks more like a giant planet squeezing inside a grid.

Time for some black and white pictures! I usually avoid them, but they work so nicely with tall buildings and strong harsh light. This was my view on the first day in Tokyo and I just fell in love with the Tokyo skyline.

A staircase from the Tokyo National Museum, Japanese Gallery (Honkan). The exhibition was vast and interesting, but the architecture itself was nothing spectacular. However, the western neoclassical styled building has many interesting details, one being this. The black-and-white approach here is especially funky as the sides of staircase turn into light itself.

A snapshot from Kabukicho, which extents not only horizontally but vertically as well. The thing that I didn't do enough in Tokyo was taking nighttime pictures of colorful streets and alleys. Everything from composition to post-processing is still unfinished and rough.

A quiet, almost sleeping temple located in Inokashira Park. Here, we are not in the middle of Tokyo and this was visible.

On the bustling streets of Tokyo, I never stopped being amazed by the weirdly charming street blocks. Here we have apartment buildings featured with a giant surf board and a traditional looking roof in the corner. All in the area where buildings were relatively low.

A pond, reflections, and a contemplative heron. Shinobazuno Pond, near to Ueno Park.

Despite its size, the Shōwa Kinen Kōen was a pleasure to walk around. The weather and light were so nice that in my opinion, the best pictures from the trip were taken here. While most of the trees were not blossoming, the garden was extremely charming. The park itself is a huge, being the largest park in Japan (1.6 million square meters).

Interesting landscape or cityscape of old and modern. In the foreground, we have a beautiful pond from the Hama-rikyū Gardens (Hama-rikyū Onshi Teien), which is towered by the tall apartment houses.

Kochia plants, brilliant red bushes that blankets the rolling hills at Hitachi Seaside Park, Hitachinaka, Japan during the Autumn seasons.

Koishikawa Kōrakuen, one of the oldest gardens in Tokyo. Although it is relatively compact, there are lots of beautiful and traditional scenaries to see. We were lucky to visit this attractive garden during the early cherry blossom season, but it is also stunning in the late autumn.

One of the guard towers in the Imperial Palace, staying vigilant in the middle of modern buildings and skyscrapers. Personally, I love this kind of contrasts. Perhaps that’s the reason, why I wanted to present this as contrasty B&W picture

Evening’s soft glow spreads, Bridge arches over still bay, City lights twinkle.

The serene twilight scene captured in the photograph evokes a sense of calmness and wonder. The illuminated bridge stands as a symbol of connection, spanning across the tranquil water. As the day transitions into night, the city lights come alive, creating a magical atmosphere.

While Shibuya Scramble Crossing offers a unique experience, there are many other interesting spots in Shibuya as well. I enjoyed my time on bridges, where one could stare at the endless traffic. Here, the combination of white cars against the pitch-black road is simply too mesmerizing!

This sci-fi building caught my attention immediately. The building (Vort Ginza Maxim, fancy name right) was on a relatively narrow street, and it was quite a task to capture in a single shot even with ultrawide angle lens. Nevertheless, I think this picture captures well my amazement and do justice to its wild façade.

Fuji-Hakone-Izu National Park

Another view from the traditional Japanese Garden, located in the Showa Memorial Park (Shōwa Kinen Kōen). This small pond / lake was my favorite as it featured numerous interesting objects and details. For instance here we have a tiny turtle-shaped island with two trees growing on it. It’s like the World Turtle in miniature form!

Greetings from Japan! On this trip, I spent most of my time in the Inner Tokyo, but part of the time I stayed in Tachikawa City, which still belongs to the Greater Tokyo area. The absolute highlight of the Tachikawa is its beautiful Showa Memorial Park (Shōwa Kinen Kōen), which I highly recommend. Here is a beautiful view from the Traditional Japanese Garden.

In the Arashiyama forest, the bamboo shoots rise toward the sky like endless columns. In black and white, the scene sheds its colors to retain only the essence: the light filtering through the stalks and the impression of infinite verticality. This photograph seeks to convey the silence, density, and timelessness of this mythical place in Kyoto. A vegetal cathedral where every ray becomes a prayer of light.
