We employed the services of LomoKev. to help us with a 'brand/creative workshop' with a difference. Our client, VisitBrighton, agreed to my cock-eyed idea of looking at their brand through the eyes of a tourist, and using little Lomo cameras to record the shots.

The results were amazing. It has really given VisitBrighton and us something to work with. The idea is we can now re-evaluate their brand values and message – and strengthen their marketing communications.

Thanks VisitBrighton and LomoKev.

This shot was taken by me on our workshop day. We'd love to do more of this for our other clients too.

we are all so proud of our beautiful, vibrant, diverse, historic City - and do you blame us, despite our government trying all it can to destroy everything that is good about British culture for the ordinary person? brightonfestival.org/

From the VisitBrighton website : "Brighton & Hove's historic seafront bandstand re-opened in summer 2009, having undergone a major restoration project to return the building to its Victorian splendour. The deck of the bandstand is used for regular concerts, whilst the base of the building has been converted into a café"

My first question of Mick was to ask how come he looked so tanned compared to Pete. The answer was that he has a place in Spain where he and his wife go as often as they can. We read so much about keeping out of the sun and how much it ages you. Well that's no true of Mick ........ he told me he's 72 years old.

Mick and Pete (# 45) have been friends for at least 25 years. Mick was a caretaker in a school and they met because Pete is a driver for disabled children. They've been bikers together ever since.

Mick started to tell me about their up and coming holiday to Route 66. Then he backtracked to tell me about the first time they went there in 2010. They were due to come back about the time many European airlines had suspended flights because it was feared the volcanic ash from an eruption in Iceland could get into the plane engines. Sadly, the airline returned them to the hotel where they had to stay for another week all expenses paid!

I had to ask about Route 66 and the pair of them explained that they'd only travelled half the Route in 2010 but this year they were doing all 2,448 miles of it. (Do correct me if I'm wrong) Route 66 is known as the Main Street of America or the Mother Road, which is what Pete and Mick called it. Mick suggested I read the 1939 book 'The Grapes of Wrath' which is about a family from Oklahoma who set out along Route 66 with thousands of others to find jobs, land, dignity and a future.

Thank you so much for agreeing to be one of my 100 strangers Mick. I enjoyed learning all about Route 66 and I'll certainly find the book.

The new West Pier arches, in the creative quarter of Brighton beach, offers the perfect way to combine sun, sea & shopping.

Situated at the site of the West Pier, & forthcoming i360, the West Pier arches feature a range of unique retail outlets selling products from designer gifts & homeware to children’s clothing, photographic prints, frames & books. The site also includes a hairdresser & beauty salon.

The refurbished arches, originally built in Victorian times, are also lit nightly with custom made lighting programmed to produce sweeping blues, whites and sea greens to represent waves. Well worth a visit at dusk in tandem with the nearby Bandstand, also beautifully lit at night-time. From VisitBrighton.com.

This made me smile because of the question mark over JJ's head!

The official visitbrighton.com site recommends visitors check out their top 10 roundup of graffiti art in the city. The image above is described on the site as 'Mural at Black Rock - an ever-changing unofficial gallery on the wooden hoardings beside Brighton Marina which reflects Brighton's lively graffiti scene'.

Black rock was the home of a beautiful Art Deco Lido constructed in 1936 at beach level. It was closed in 1978 and demolished in 1979 and the land, albeit the subject of endless multi-million pound building applications, including an olympic size ice rink, remains empty save for graffiti artists and an annual Sand Sculpture exhibition.

The Regency houses overlooking Black Rock in this image are known as Arundal Crescent. They form part of Sussex Square, Lewes Crescent and Chichester Terrace, the largest piece of Regency Architecture in Brighton's famous Kemp Town. Work began on the houses in 1823 and, after financial difficulties and a change of builders and sponsors, the work was completed in 1855. Sussex Square is said to be larger than Grosvenor Square in London and Lewes Crescent is the largest in Britain with a diameter 200 feet larger than Bath Royal Crescent.

After a period of decline in the late 1800's the area has been largely 'gentrified' again although the massive houses are mainly converted to apartments with the larger ones (apartments) fetching a million +.

I bumped into this group of what I presumed to be Albion supporters in the city today. I took a candid shot of them facing me and one of them smiled. I smiled back and said it was good to get a shot of a group of club supporters. He then explained that the group were from Holland and in Brighton to support Albions Dutch goalkeeper Bart Verbruggen. In his words they were the Breda BARTS Army and they all had the group name on the back of the Albion shirts. It would have been rude not to ask them to turnaround so I could highlight the supporters group with a shot of their backs ;-))

I had a fabulous time with my partner in Brighton at the weekend,

Brighton Beach & Seafront

Voted one of the Top 10 city beach break destinations in the world, Brighton & its beachfront cool are legendary.

With the famous Brighton Pier as a backdrop, daytime traditional seaside fun mixes seamlessly with night time funky beachside club culture.

Did you know that there are apparently around 614,600,000 pebbles on Brighton beach. Although the real question is who counted them?!

Things to Do on Brighton Beach

If you’re feeling active then there are lots of sports to try on Brighton beach from watersports such as kayaking and stand-up paddle boarding to classic beach sports such as volleyball and Frisbee.

If that sounds too hectic then why not indulge in the simple pleasure of a refreshing paddle and maybe skim a few pebbles across the water?

Or if even that is too much then grab a deckchair and really relax!

Soak up the cosmopolitan vibe

It’s not just about the water as the beachfront promenade is a destination in its own right!

The arches along the beachfront are home to a variety of businesses. By Brighton Pier you’ll find great galleries in the Artists’ Quarter.

As you stroll along you see more bars and restaurants serving everything from ice-cream to high end seafood.

The arches by the West Pier and i360 are home to independent traders selling fashion, furniture and photography.

Beachside Attractions

Of course a day at the beach has to include a trip to the iconic Brighton Pier with its helter skelter and arcade games. Just next door you’ll find Sea Life Brighton home to giant turtles, sharks and seahorses.

Head west and you’ll find the free Fishing Museum, tracing the city’s origins as a sleepy fishing village and a bit further along you’ll find British Airways i360 – the world’s tallest moving observation tower.

Glide 450 feet into the air to see Brighton & Hove including the vibrant Brighton Beach, in all its glory!

After dark, Brighton Beach really comes alive with Brighton’s seafront clubs and bars nestling underneath the Victorian beachfront arches opening their doors for some of the best club nights in the country.

Use the search facility above to search for Brighton beach activities and Brighton beach attractions. And remember to keep an eye on the What’s On section so you don’t miss out on all the great Brighton Beach events taking place throughout the year.

Allen's Creek is a tributary to Irondequoit Creek, which empties into Irondequoit Bay and ultimately into Lake Ontario. Hidden away in this development-packed suburb of Rochester, the Glen serve up a small slice of nature with multiple cascades and nearly 2 miles of trails.

I love the light at Shoreham beach, but it was the kite & bouy against a dull June sky that had me reach for my camera again on a family day out to Shoreham-By-Sea in Sussex.

So much more genteel than nearby Brighton where kites mean kite-surfing over the pier.

Ian was one of those strangers in the crowd at the Kemp Town Festival who definitely looked worth taking a photo of. Maybe even seeing if he wanted to be part of my 100 strangers project. The pretty daisies on his cheeks stood out across the crowds. I approached him and ask if it was ok to take his picture and he happily asked where I wanted him to stand. While I was taking the picture he suggested I should get a photo of his girlfriend as she'd painted his flowers on his face and he said the ones on her face were even better. He told me that she worked in the charity shop and to call in if I was nearby.

Later in the day I walked past the Age UK charity shop and saw Ian and his girlfriend Fran. We chatted and they were happy for me to take their photo together. One wall of the shop was a pretty orange so I asked them to stand against it as a backdrop for the photo. It was a bit of a balancing act as the wall had a flight of stairs running down it but we managed. Ian is taller so he went down a step and Fran was able to put her arm round his shoulder.

They were a lovely young couple who've been together for about 6 years. Ian has just qualified as a teacher and Fran works full time as a Special Needs Support Teacher for Autistic children. From the way she spoke it was clear it is a job she loves. She works in the shop on Saturdays. I learned that she's also a brilliant photographer and has her own photo blog on:

fransmith.photo.wordpress. I noticed when looking at her blog that she won the spring competition on Facebook. It's worth checking out the blog ;-))

Thank you so much Fran and Ian.

Just as Allen's Creek emerges from beneath the vine-covered stone of a rail bridge, the water tumbles down the 4 foot Tunnel Falls. This is the first of many lovely scenes encountered in the hidden gem that is Corbett’s Glen Nature Park.

The lovely Christmas lights of Brighton.

Jack was one of those strangers who I got talking to before I asked him to be part of my project.

I'd been taking photos at the finish line of the London to Brighton bike ride and I'd stopped under the arches to check my settings. Jack and his friend John had stopped so his wife could take a photo of them and we started to chat about the ride. Jack was telling me its the 2nd year that he's taken part but this year they'd completed it an hour quicker than last year. I commented that he must be pretty fit and he told me that he had MS. I was quite taken back and said that it must be the early stages and he said he was diagnosed 25 years ago. The 50 + mile ride is a challenge for anybody so I really admire Jack for getting out their and doing it and completing it in 4.5 hours.

Thank you for your time Jack and so well done.
