Angkor Wat ("Capital Temple") is a temple complex in Panorama view of the corner of Angkor Wat formed by the East and South Entrance fencing.

Cambodia and the largest religious monument in the world measuring 162.6 hectares. It was originally constructed in early 12th century by King Suryavarman II as a Hindu temple dedicated to the god Vishnu for the Khmer Empire and gradually transforming into a Buddhist temple towards the end of the 12th century. As the best-preserved temple at the site, it is the only one to have remained a significant religious center since its foundation. The temple is at the top of the high classical style of Khmer architecture. It has become a symbol of Cambodia (national flag) and it is the country's prime attraction for visitors.

Angkor Wat combines two basic plans of Khmer temple architecture: the temple-mountain and the later galleried temple. It is designed to represent Mount Meru. Within the moat is the outer wall 3.6 kilometers long and there are three rectangular galleries, each raised above the next. At the center of the temple stands a quincunx of towers. Unlike most Angkorian temples, Angkor Wat is oriented to the west; scholars are divided as to the significance of this. The temple is admired for the grandeur and harmony of the architecture, its extensive bas-reliefs, and for the numerous devatas (deity) adorning its walls.

Wotan's Throne, Vishnu Temple

This is view of the interior part of the Southern Outer Gallery with some of the most famous bas-relief carvings named "Army of Suryavarman II Gallery".

The bas relief carvings are on all four sides of the outer walls of the Outer Gallery. They tell Hindu stories of heaven and hell and great armies and struggles of the world. These reliefs are detailed and very well preserved when considering that they were carved in the 1100s. They are not worn out (protected by solid gallery roofs supported by solid columns and walls). There are darkened areas where visitors had touched the relief.

Vishnu Springs (vishnusprings.org) opened to the public for one day. After parking, it was about a half mile walk to the area of the 1890's resort town. The pathway went through a beautiful wooded forest.

This is located inside the Vittala Temple campus. You would be visiting the Stone Chariot as part of your Vittala Temple tour.

In mythology Lord Vittala is an aspect of Lord Vishnu (See Gods of Hampi and Mythology of Hampi). Garuda (lord of eagles) is the vehicle (mount) of Lord Vishnu. The Stone Chariot once contained the icon on Garuda, though the shrine is empty now. This shrine is in the axis of the massive Vittala Temple and faces the sanctum of Vittala Temple.

It was originally constructed as a Hindu temple of god Vishnu for the Khmer Empire, gradually transforming into a Buddhist temple toward the end of the 12th century. It was built by the Khmer King Suryavarman II in the early 12th century in Yaśodharapura, present-day Angkor, the capital of the Khmer Empire, as his state temple and eventual mausoleum. Breaking from the Shaiva tradition of previous kings, Angkor Wat was instead dedicated to Vishnu. As the best-preserved temple at the site, it is the only one to have remained a significant religious center since its foundation. The temple is at the top of the high classical style of Khmer architecture. It has become a symbol of Cambodia, appearing on its national flag, and it is the country's prime attraction for visitors.

This event for God Vishnu and age limit is under 15.

From the Wiki Page: "Vishnu Temple is named for Vishnu, the Hindu deity, redeemer of the universe. This toponym was applied in 1880 by Clarence Dutton who thought this mountain resembled an oriental pagoda, when he began the tradition of naming geographical features in the Grand Canyon after mythological deities."

I believe that is Humphreys Peak, a dormant volcano, way off in the distance, which is just north of Flagstaff, Arizona.

I intended to post another photo of this yesterday which would've coincided with Guru Purnima (a festival dedicated to offering respect to all the spiritual and academic gurus.)

This beautiful image depicts Laxmi (centre), both the consort and the divine energy (shakti) of the Hindu god Vishnu .... 'she who leads to one's goal'

Left is Ganesha, God of new beginnings, wisdom and luck and remover of obstacles.

Right is Saraswati, Goddess of knowledge, music, art, speech, wisdom, and learning (thanks to Two Cups Studio for the clarification and translation.)

I found this upside down among the plants in my front garden on Sunday evening. I'm the last house on my road so things sometimes get blown into my garden, though this is a more unusual and welcome find.

It's printed onto some kind of metallic laminate paper and needed some cleaning up.

Where it came from is a bit of a mystery.

I didn't post the original photo that I'd taken yesterday because I hadn't shot the level straight, and by the time I'd adjusted it, it'd lost some of the top of the circle and I was also very tired from working in school.

The flowers are a particularly beautifully scented Phlox, given to me by a late friend.

On our first night in the Grand Canyon we went out to Grandview and got to enjoy this view! Lots of people here but nonetheless worth the stop! It got me really excited to start our backpacking trip the next day!

The Vittal Birdev Annual Yatra, something that is not heard of, is celebrated at Pattan Kodoli village in Kolhapur district of Maharashtra attended by thousands of devotees coming from Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka and Maharashtra between 17th and 24th of October. The festival is celebrated to offer prayers to the community diety of the shepherds, Shri Vittal Birdev, an incarnation of Lord Shiva. They consider that the festival and rituals would bring good fortune.

Vittal Birdev Yatra One of the craziest festival yet the one which remains unknown and unexplored is the annual Haldi Festival at Pattan Kadoli in Maharastra. Shepherds from Maharastra, Andra Pradesh, Karnataka assemble at Pattan Kadoli and celebrate the festival by immersing themselves and everyone around with Turmeric Powder. Over 200000 devotees merge into this little village which gets packed to the brim and of course, gets coated with yellow color.

Shri Vittal Birdev Annual Festival is observed in at Pattan Kodoli village 17km from Kolhapur (Maharashtra, India). It is the birth anniversary or Janmotsav festival of Vitthal Birdev Maharaj, who is a reincarnation of Lord Vishnu. Birdev is the family deity of the Shepherd community from Maharashtra, Karnataka, Goa and Andhra Pradesh (India). On that day, I saw Devotees of God Vitthal Birdev are taking slaps of the hunter on their bodies without any care and without any fear.

Exceptional exhibition, entitled "Royal Bronzes of Angkor" with, as a final bouquet, this beautiful Vishnu Anantashayin from Western Mebon temple (11th century, nicknamed the "Cambodian Mona Lisa"!)

Statue just restored in the workshops of the Louvre and exhibited during a few months in Paris (until beginning of september), waiting for its later return to Phnom Penh.

Here is a shot from my campsite on the tonto trail. A magnificent view of these temples. I went on a 6 day backpacking trip on the escalante route and almost made it to the Little Colorado River, but was turned around by the weather and lack of food. I started at Grandview and ended at Tanner.

Mortality and divinity are joined in this figure of a yoga master attaining an equivalence with the cosmos.

With its origins in India about 2,500 years ago, yoga developed philosophical elements both spiritual and secular, with ties to Hindu, Jain, Sufi and Buddhist traditions, in its goal of leading to spiritual transformation.
