The beautiful demoiselle (Calopteryx virgo) is a European damselfly belonging to the family Calopterygidae. It is often found along fast-flowing waters where it is most at home...Calopteryx virgo can reach a body length of 49–54 millimetres (1.9–2.1 in), with a length of hindwings of 31–37 millimetres (1.2–1.5 in). These large, dark damselflies have small hemispherical eyes located laterally on the head, two pairs of wings similar in shape and a slender abdomen

Calopteryx virgo, ♂
A brief encounter with this species on the edges of the river, whose waters ran fast in the shade of the trees and made the plants of the banks on which the few Calopteryx virgo males settled. Complicated was to take a decent half shot, but he enjoyed his green and blue metallic tones.

The blue galaxy located to the right is NGC 4536, an Intermediate Spiral Galaxy in the Virgo constellation. It is close to the celestial equator and is partly visible from both hemispheres. NGC 4536 is undergoing strong burst formation. Based on X-ray emission from the core, it may contain a small supermassive back hole. It is 50 million light-years away and has an apparent magnitude of 11.1.
The small galaxy closer to the centre is NGC 4533. It has a surface brightness of 23.04 mag/arcsec and is 1.82 X 0.389 arcmin.
The galaxy to the left is NGC 4527. It has an angular size of 6.3 X 1.3 arcmin. Its classification is an Intermediate Spiral (Hubble galaxy morphological classification), similar to the Andromeda Galaxy. It is about 48.9 million lightyears away.

The beautiful demoiselle (Calopteryx virgo) is a European damselfly belonging to the family Calopterygidae. It is often found along fast-flowing waters where it is most at home...The distribution of the beautiful demoiselle covers all of Europe with the exception of the southwestern Iberian Peninsula, the Balearic Islands and Iceland.
the astrological sign of virgo is an earth sign and symbolized by "the virgin goddess of justice" in
greek mythology.
virgos tend to be perfectionists but are also known for being practical, shy, cautious and calm.. on the negative side they can be very critical and judgmental.
ooops! i let the dates slip by and forgot to do my virgo astrological image in the actual correct time frame..my aplogies to my virgo friends!!! happy belated b-day! :)
for my friend craig.. happy belated b-day !!!
ps- unfortunately i finished this image before doing more research on virgo and discovered that she should be holding wheat.. oh well.. i did find images of her holding a shield and sword.. so i'm sticking with the greek explanation i guess :)
special thanks to joessistah for the wings
image of earth from space found on a free background site
This scene features a trio of interacting galaxies found in the constellation of Virgo, being some 70-90 million light years away from Earth. The largest galaxy in the group is NGC 5566, which is a barred spiral galaxy stretching nearly 150,000 light years in diameter. Having widely sweeping spiral arms, with dark dusty lanes, these arms are speckled with new star forming regions throughout. The elongated galaxy to the left of NGC 5566 is the heavily distorted NGC5560. You can just see faint dusty interconnections between NGC 5560 and NGC 5566, providing us some clues that these are in fact interacting. The lower blueish galaxy NGC5569 does not appear to be disturbed, and maybe placed slightly in the foreground.
In the darkness of the surrounding space, the speckled background indicates a sea of background objects, all being in the significant distance.

The former Sjöfartsverkets (Swedish Maritime Administration) buoy/lighthouse tender 'Fyrbyggaren', which was converted in 2021 to a passenger 'expedition' vessel for use in the Arctic region.
Owned and operated by Virgo Rederiaktiebolaget of Partille, Sweden.

**16/06/2022, vessel ran aground in Fuglefjorden, north-western Spitzbergen, Svalbard, Norwegian archipelago between Norway and North Pole, Arctic, at around 10:00 UTC on June 14th.
There were 13 passengers and seven crew on board.
The ship’s hull was reported as breached in the area of its fuel tank and an oil leak was reported.
As of 15:00 UTC June 14th the vessel appeared to have been refloated and to be manoeuvring at very slow speed near the grounding site, with a tug and auxiliary vessel nearby.
Subsequently repaired and returned to service.**
