A winter hike in the woods. A different kind of peaceful and beautiful when the leaves come down. Does that path lead to spring or a fairytale...or both?
Blue Ridge Mountains. View from Skyline Drive. The Blue Ridge Mountains are known for having a bluish color when seen from a distance. Trees put the "blue" in Blue Ridge, from the isoprene released into the atmosphere. This contributes to the characteristic haze on the mountains and their perceived color.
As much as I love capturing the leaves changing colors this time of the year, I think this year I am spending more time finding & photographing the local farmers markets.

Looking down at the clouds without an airplane. Just 75 miles from the bustle of Washington, D.C., Shenandoah National Park is a land bursting with cascading waterfalls, spectacular vistas, fields of wildflowers, and quiet wooded hollows. With over 200,000 acres of protected lands that are haven to deer, songbirds, and black bear, there's so much to explore. The Skyline Drive runs 105 miles north and south along the crest of the Blue Ridge Mountains in Shenandoah National Park.
Alexander Black House in Blacksburg, Virginia. The house was moved to this site to make way for development. It's been beautifully restored, both inside and out. Here is a video of the house being moved for the curious: youtu.be/E_GIT5pzojg

A little treasure I found while hiking around my neighborhood. I am really enjoying carrying just a few primes, especially my macro lens. :-)
Dawn breaks over a deep blanket of clouds covering the Shenandoah Valley. This image captured from the Skyline Drive, Shenandoah National Park.
NAS Oceana, Virginia Beach, VA
Captured at the NAS Oceana Airshow, this breathtaking moment showcases the fearless artistry of wing-walking—a high-stakes aerial stunt where performers defy gravity atop a roaring biplane. With vibrant smoke trails painting the sky and the aircraft banking dramatically mid-flight, this image celebrates the daring spirit of aviation and the human drive to dance on the edge of possibility.
Montpelier, VA | Nikon FE | Kodak Gold 200 |
Montpelier Supply, located just across from the railroad depot on Route 20 was owned and run for many years by Mr. and Mrs. Jennins. They sold groceries, supplies, and gas.
I finally got out with the camera for a bit today and explored Great Falls Park in Great Falls Virginia. I was out at mid-day so I wasn't expecting a lot of great shots, this was more an scout and find type of day so I could familiarize myself with this park. Hopefully I will be able to make out there early one morning for a sunrise shot. ;-)
The Channels Natural Area Preserve is located on the Washington/Russel County line in Southwest Virginia. It was designated as a State Natural Area preserve in April 2008. The Channels is the 53rd natural area preserve to be so designated in the Commonwealth. It is an area of significant high elevation forest, rock outcrop and cliff communities. The preserve name is derived from the maze-like system of sandstone crevices and boulders that occur near the 4,36 acre State Forest that was purchased by the Department of Forestry from the Nature Conservancy in March 2008.
