The Youngest Skipper in the IPL Virat Kohli, up on stage to take a bow at the May 8th Victory over Kochi After Party at the ITC Royal Gardenia
In 2022 cricket fans in Melbourne painted this mural of Indian cricketers Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli and Hardik Pandya. The mural, in Higson Lane, also features the Melbourne Cricket Ground. It was painted to welcome the Indian team to the city for the T20 World Cup game against Pakistan.
Australia won yesterday's Twenty-20 Cricket match at the Sydney Cricket Ground by 12 runs, their 186 for five wickets too strong for India's 174 for 7. The result was still in the balance with India's Hardyk Pandya and Virat Kohli at the wicket, but Pandya was out for 20. That left the heavy lifting to Kohli, who perished on an exciting 85. In the end India wasn't up to scoring the runs, although they did win the series 2-1.
Here Pandya dispatches a delivery from Australian leg spinner, Adam Zampa.
Virat Kohli has stepped down as captain of India men's Test cricket team; he's been a great captain over the years and I've dug out these pics of him I took at the Trent Bridge test against England back in 2018, when he scored a century. Ben Stokes and Jos Buttler are the England fielders here.
The third Australia v India T-20 game in the 2016 series had a dramatic last-ball finish, with India's Suresh Raina hitting a four off the last ball to secure an Indian victory and wrap up the series 3-0. Australia scored 5-197, including 124 not out by Shane Watson off 74 balls. India had second bat and Rohit Sharma (52 off 38), Virat Kohli (50 off 36) and Raina (49 off 25) helped the score to 3-200, although the crowd favourite seemed to be 'Yuvi' Yuvraj Singh (15 off 12).
Still, after Australia won the one-day series 4-1 there were accusations the selectors weren't taking the Sydney Cricket Ground T-20 seriously, with Steve Smith and David Warner not playing and Test bowlers rested or injured. This enabled the Australian selectors to try out some of the Big Bash's top performers on a national stage. The crowd was 34,527, including lots of India supporters (check out the blue shirts in the concourse and Bill O'Reilly stand). Noisiest game ever, with announcers encouraging both Australia and India to 'Make some Noise!' and non-stop dancers (wearing yellow, under the scoreboard). Watson was man of the match and Kohli man of the series.
Watson picked a good time for the knock, getting 9.5 crore at the February IPL auctions!
Royal Challengers Bangalore win by 7 wickets against Rising Pune Supergiants in the IPL 9 2016 Match

Indian cricketer Virat Kohli celebrates his century during the first match in the World Cup Cricket tournament between Bangladesh and India at The Sher-e Bangla National Stadium in Dhaka on February 19, 2011. India scored 370 runs for the loss of four wickets in their alloted 50 overs after Bangladesh won the toss and elected to field first.
India wins the 3 match ODI series against england at cuttuck, as yuvraj and dhoni hit tons.
England winning the toss and putting India to bat first, India lost their openers cheaply, again. Woakes bowled really well to get dhawan and rahul, but the big scalp was of Virat Kohli. India were...
Facing 328, Virat Kohli's dismissal for 1 was a big blow for India in the 2015 Cricket World Cup semi-final. It's remarkable how wickets fall when one is in a bar queue. Contrasting the Australian huddle, Rohit Sharma is a lonely figure at the wicket. Ajinkya Rahane is the incoming batsman.
After being 0-76 India was 2-78 and Kohli's exit turned the game. Australia's bowlers carried the day; Most impressive were Johnson 2-50, Hazlewood 1-41 and Mitchell Starc 2-28, who in six matches has 18 wickets for 9.77.
A sell-out crowd of 42,330 seemed to split evenly between Australian and Indian supporters, although the Indian camp carry more flags!
Australia are running out of gas at the end of a hard-contested four-test series, which let Rishabh Pant and Ravindra Jadeja take India to 622-7 declared after Cheteshwar Pujara's fine first innings 193. Dismissed for 300, Australia's batting and bowling are both under fire. After Australia scored 300 in the first innings, India enforced the follow-on. Australia in a home test are following on for the first time in 31 years, and at the Sydney Cricket Ground at the close of the fourth test's fourth day were no wicket for 6 in the second innings. It will take a major effort (or bad light or rain) to save a draw and avoid a 3-1 defeat, but either way India will win a cricket test series in Australia for the first time tomorrow. India has been touring here since 1948...
Going into the last day, Marnus Labuschagne has the best series average for an Australian batsman of 38 but from only one innings (Marcus Harris has had a respectable series with 258 runs at 37 so far). Four Indian batsman can better that. Pujara has a series-winning tally of 521 runs at an average of 74 (including three centuries). On the bowling side, Jasprit Bumrah has 21 wickets at an average of 17. Australia's top bowler, Pat Cummins, has 14 wickets at 28, and five Indian bowlers can top that. Bumrah has 49 wickets in his first ten tests, including a memorable slow ball yorker to dismiss Shaun Marsh in Melbourne.
While the stats have been skewed in this test match which is yet to complete, India have outlasted Australia on our home turf and are on the verge of a tremendous achievement.
Players in the photo from left: Marcus Harris, Jasprit Bumrah, Usman Khawaja, Rishabh Pant, Cheteshwar Pujara, Virat Kohli. Just 25 overs bowled in the day, a bit disappointing for the 18,000 crowd as the drizzle after 11am was very light.
Postscript: Bad light and rain stopped play on the fifth day, and the drawn match resulted in an India win 2-1 in for the test series - India's first series win in Australia, helped by the absence of Smith and Warner following their sandpaper shenanigans.

Day 4 at the Sydney Cricket Ground (SCG) Cricket Test, India is 8 for 455 and Mohammed Shami and R Ashwin are batting, facing Australia's in-and-out of the team but extremely fast bowler Mitchell Starc.
Yesterday a dropped catch at the pink Test's Jane McGrath day had new Australian captain Steve Smith seeing red, as he blamed the mistake on the high-tech camera hovering above him. The Spidercam - which provides close-up images for broadcast - is near centre, above the MA Noble stand. It is suspended by cables painted black to avoid distracting the players.
The $197 million upgrade to the MA Noble, Donald Bradman and Dally Messenger stands was opened mid-year before being finished, but the long-overdue upgrade looks good, with new food and drink outlets, wi-fi and AV system. The new stands have 13,360 seats. Services, if not their quality, have caught up with the Stadium built for the Sydney 2000 Olympic Games.
Sadly the SCG retains its ban on normal-strength booze, stocking weak sponsor's beer and wine that costs more by the plastic cup than the cask it probably came from. You can't even get the sponsor's main product. Cidar (sic) was mis-spelt. It's about time the SCG offered a modern bar choice, but the keg beer bastion's ads tell its patrons they are rowdy drunks, public nuisances, health deviants and social misfits. It's fun that the 'don't forget to hydrate yourself' message comes up surrounded by giant beer ads, adjacent to stacks of 'don't drink and drive' advertising. Dull beer is no longer the only choice, so we eventually rejected the dismal alcohol choices for coffee.
About 19,000 people attended, a good outcome given the Test's late rescheduling this year. There was good cricket on the fourth day. India's new captain Virat Kohli was dismissed early for 147, his fourth century of the series, but India's tail put up resistance and they closed the innings on 475, conceding a lead of 97. The Australians then blitzed to 6-251 from 40 overs. Six runs an over is unheard of in tests. It included a 70-ball 71 from the skipper, who now holds the record for runs in an Australia-India Border-Gavaskar series (with Kohli not far behind), and a 39-ball 66 from new Test batsman Joe Burns. This was briliant even against a slightly iffy attack which bowled too short to penetrate on a granite pitch. However, the odd ball was unplayable, such as the one which caught Smith for lbw. The Australians could already declare with a lead of 348, and they are in the box seat. Depending on the timing of the declaration, either Australia or India could win, but India will have to fight to draw. Tomorrow entry is $20 at the door, no pre booking.

BANGALORE, INDIA - FEBRUARY 11: Virat Kohli of India signs bat stickers during a portrait session ahead of the 2011 ICC World Cup at the ITC Gardenia on February 11, 2011 in Bangalore, India.
India's prolific skipper Virat Kohli reached 97 in the 1st innings before Adil Rashid surprisingly got him to nick one to Ben Stokes at slip in the same over as this shot was taken. He made up for it in India's 2nd innings scoring 103.
The old Larwood and Voce Stand at Trent Bridge is seen in the background.
