So after a week on the sick - I'm hopefully up & running, well up anyway. I have never felt so ill, had a viral infection, knocked me for six !! still not 100% but as this is the last week of term I've gone back, quite an easy week so thats good.

Lotty is doing well and fitting in well....next week we are off on holidays with her so that should be fun....lol

I hope to catch up with you all some time soon, seems ages since I was on here.

Wednesday night was a tough night. I found that I couldn't look at my cell phone or my laptop due to the sharp pain in my eyes (primarily my left one). I figured I need to seek immediate medical attention so the next day I went to the ER. After some tests I was told to go to the Eye Outpatient Centre. At the Centre, my eye pressure was shown to be normal, meaning that this wasn't related to Glaucoma and wasn't caused by my multiple myeloma or chemo treatment - I'm on dexamethasone, which has increased my eye pressure in the past.

Instead, I was diagnosed with a viral infection in both eyes - adenovirus. It was worse in my left eye. Basically as it is highly contagious, it was necessary for me to avoid social interaction, minimize contact, and get lots of rest through the weekend. I expect to be back to 100% by Tuesday.

Adeno-Associated virus (AAV) capsid (3D data 2qa0 from www.rcsb.org). The single stranded DNA genome inside the capsid is not visible here. The virus is a small, replication-defective, nonenveloped virus. AAV infects humans and some other primates.AAV is not currently known to cause any disease and this lack of pathogenicity has attracted considerable interest from gene therapy researchers together with a other features: AAV can infect non-dividing cells and can stably integrate into human chromosome 19 at a specific site which makes this virus more predictable and a better choice than retroviruses for gene therapy since retroviruses present the threat of random insertion and mutagenesis, which can be followed by cancer. However, removal of the "rep" and "cap" portions of the AAV genome helped create AAV vectors for gene therapy that lack integrative capacity. Selected genes for gene therapy can be inserted in to the AAV vector between the inverted terminal repeats (ITR). AAV DNA is lost through cell division, since the episomal DNA is not replicated along with the host cell DNA. Clinical trials: AAV vectors have been used for treatment of cystic fibrosis and hemophilia B, Parkinson's disease, muscular dystrophy, Arthritis and Alzheimer's disease. The mystery rash that I thought was getting better has just escalated. I am so uncontrollably itchy. I itch inside my ears, even. It's horrible. What started out as random spots all over has turned into huge blotches. I have an appointment to see a doctor tomorrow morning, so hopefully I can get to the bottom of this. It is definitely a severe allergic reaction to something, but I can't figure out what. I'm just thanking Bob that I haven't gone into anaphylactic shock. I'm seriously ready to just flay myself to be rid of the itchies.

This is Anita's arm on December 30, in the ICU. Three days earlier, I'd taken her in to a local emergency room; she was having trouble breathing. After five hours there on an IV, the doc said "It's the Croup."

Two days later I took her back in, with breathing troubles still--and this new rash on her right arm.

Within three days, her entire right arm turned red, swollen, skin peeling and blisters forming. She was in ICU for four days, Intermediate care for another three before I finally got her out. And I'd rather not show you the photo I took of her arm at its worst, two days later--this is bad enough.

The doctors were stumped, but finally had to admit that Anita picked it up in the emergency room--a viral infection.

Anita went back to work today, after a month at home. Since she came home, I've been bandaging her arm every day, cooking, cleaning, trying to sleep. Her arm's much better--but there's still the need to bandage it.

Basically, this is why I haven't been posting photos here. I think I can start again.

My youngest son has a viral infection that causes rashes on his body trunk area and has a running fever with a high temperature and a tight hacking cough, here he is going through nebulization to help ease his breathing and cough. Praise the Lord that there is no need for hospitalization because it is that bad. God is so good.

The black speck is a piece of metal. It was removed at Moorfields eye hospital and antibiotic eye drops and cream given to help heal the dent left in the eye after its removal. We're told it will take a few weeks or more to fully heal
