The death of Elijah McClain, happened in August of 2019. It's unfortunate and heartbreaking to only hear of this story until now. A kind hearted soul that taught himself how to play guitar and violin, violinists all over the world rallied together to hold a vigil in honor of his name. His name is only but of one of many on a long list of black and brown lives that have gone too soon. Here in Los Angeles, in my neighborhood of Leimert Park, the community gathered to gather to heal; music has such a power. As the world erupts in the demand for justice against racial bias and discrimination, let us never forget that we must hold space in our anger and sadness to love and heal. Rest in power, Elijah, let the strings of the violin know that people stand with you.
When the music stops you feel more alone.
