Gender-based violence, already a global crisis before the pandemic, has intensified since the outbreak of COVID-19. Lockdowns and other mobility restrictions have left many women trapped with their abusers, isolated from social contact and support networks. Increased economic precarity has further limited many women’s ability to leave abusive situations. COVID-driven economic and social instability will also heighten the risk of child marriage, female genital mutilation and human trafficking, 5.7% of adults aged 16 to 59 years experienced domestic abuse in the year ending March 2022.

This isn't him you know it

But the bruises feel the same

The stomach leaves unspoken

but you can feel the rain

when you've

had enough he knows it

he breaks you down again

and all your feelings hopeless

when you

you trying to find the end

but it's

not your fault

when he breaks your heart

don't wait

your not broken

your heart still beats

the door still opens

don't wait to walk away

your worth

more than he let's you see

and people start to notice

then he

he promises to change

but it

It's not your fault

and it's never been your fault

a promise that is broken

tell me time again

don't wait

your not broken

your heart still beats

the door still opens

don't wait to walk away

your worth

more than he let's you see

don't wait

your not broken

and don't wait

your not broken

and don't wait

your not broken

you never did deserve it

don't you ever take the blame

for the life he has stolen

now your

an angle Heven gained

don't wait

Tribute to all Sri Lankans/Foreigners who sacrifice their lives at the recent Bomb Attacks on Easter Sunday Morning ie. 21st April 2019 in all over Sri Lanka. The blasts targeted three Churches, as well as leading luxury Hotels namely Shangri-La, Kingsbury and the Cinnamon Grand in the capital of Colombo, Sri Lanka.

Thank you so much for my friends who sent me mails and phone messages regarding the incident. I am safe at the moment.

I couldn't do much flickr activities for the past four months due to personal reasons, but happy... I meet you all once again.

At the rear of me is the Peace Pagoda; This pagoda's foundation stone was laid on 3 November 1972 by Nichidatsu Fujii, and was inaugurated on 1 November 1992. The pagoda was designed by M. Ohka, and it took 36 months for constructing it. It houses the four avatars of Buddha including Maitreya Buddha.

It symbolizes teachings of peace and non-violence.

Not all violence against women is physical or this obvious. There is a lot of hidden violence in the form of mental and emotional abuse. It even happens in Second Life. Any pain or harm that is intentionally inflicted is violence. Stop the violence.

"Sex And Violence" by The Exploited

Fuji X-Pro3 plus Samyang telephoto lens. The pursuit of beauty in a violent world is a problem. Blue Bells are beautiful and extremely fragile. How do we represent this beauty without acknowledging the violence that is also there? The focus on beauty alone could be escapist, even expressing a flat denial. On the other hand, showing beauty could be interpreted as a protest against a violent world, or a reminder of the possibility of an alternative world. I think it is okay to concentrate on beauty, as long as we do not deny the horror out there.

Non Violence - A copy of the original sculpture by Swedish artist Carl Fredrik Reuterswärd. The original work is outside the United Nations Building New York.

"The original sculpture of The Knotted Gun also known as “Non-Violence” was created by Swedish artist Carl Fredrik Reuterswärd, a friend of John Lennon's family. Reuterswärd created this piece of art after Lennon's tragic death as he wanted to honor the singer's vision of a peaceful world."

Hmmm..... If only there were no politicians it would definitely be a very peaceful world!

I took this photo 3 years ago in Oslo. the reason I'm reposting today has obviously to do with the title I gave it now.

Don't worry - nobody is beating up anybody :-))!!!!!!!! Violated my camera - I just try a few new techniques...

I am a bit tired of photoshopping :-(!

This one is straight out of the camera...hmmmm???????????????????????

I must admit my creative break didn't last two long.......maybe it is the winter blues (it is cold, it is storming, it is pouring!!!) we Capetonians experience at the moment?!? I see lots of my local flickr friends also lack creativity or are just not in the right spirit...guys, I feel with you!!!!!!

I attended my 13th protest on behalf of Black Lives Matter this past Saturday since the pandemic began but I haven't brought my camera to the last few because I am honestly just there to support what I believe in. Black Lives Matter is not a photo op or a hash tag. It's a belief system that you actually adhere to every day because Love is a verb. I don't believe it is my place, as a white person, to tell the story of this movement but if you all are interested, there's a phenomenal Chicago photographer who is doing an excellent job capturing the essence and joy of the community coming together and he goes by Vashon:

www.instagram.com/vashon_photo/

You may have heard different media spin on protests in Chicago. All of the ones I have attended continue to be peaceful. I ask you to question the narratives that you read when there are advertiser funds involved. I ask you to scrutinize those words when there are political biases tied to political candidates. I ask you to listen with an open mind and an open heart.

Currently the movement is focused on a few things:

1. Reinvesting in communities some of the $1.2 BILLION dollars per year (roughly $600 per resident) that our city spends on police.

2. CPAC or Civilian Police Accountability Council which would guarantee more police accountability (there are some officers still on the force with over 40 complaints for example).

3. Removal of cops or "school resource officers" in schools and instead hiring actual social workers, nurses, and librarians.

4. Moratorium on current evictions during a pandemic and investment in communities that need quality low income housing, employment, public education, an end to food deserts, and mental health clinics.

5. An end to ICE raids and the department responsible for literally caging children, deporting families, and forcing human beings to live in Covid petri dishes where they are sometimes forced to work in forced slave labor conditions.

If you are an abolitionist...If you believe every human life is worth fighting for, you cannot be silent on these issues. If there are no protests where you live, you can donate money to local food banks, Southern Poverty Law Center, or another worthy cause. You can vote for candidates who support Black Lives and human rights. You can speak out against school closings when they occur in a neighborhood that is dis-proportionally people of color. You can call your local school district to see if there are cops in your public schools and voice your opinion against this. You can do research to see how much your city spends on police and ask the city council to spend some of these funds on the actual community.

In this photo are two girls watching one of the Black Lives Matter protests. They appear to not show any emotion or recognition of the movement that is happening. I hope I'm wrong. We must be better than this.
