The rugged coastline of South Iceland is full of greenery and wildflowers. Vik can be reached on the main ring road that encircles Iceland and is about 180km from Reykjavik.

Just as Art Ascii (Paul)has a family tradition of jumping at every possible opportunity, in my family, we point. This is because when we were little, my mum took a lot of lovely pictures of us - but she had a very old manual-focus camera, and so taking photos took a long time. She also liked action shots (eg walking towards her pretending she wasn't there) and ones with eg me pointing at someone in the distance, and my brother and sister looking. So now my brother and sister and I have a family tradition of pointing for photos - at my sister's graduation, she got all her friends to point en masse - and anyone who joins our family has to take on the tradition. So we have lots of photos like this.

(Another tradition is for my sister and i to show off our legs, ever since the photographer at my cousins' wedding made her and her bridesmaids lift their skirts to show their garters (English garters, not suspenders)- so my dad has photos of me and my sister doing this for our graduations. We have some great family photos...)

A beautiful Church on a hilltop in the town of Vik.

Tiny town of maybe 300 people, but Wikipedia has lots of fun facts about it!

We spent the rest of the day in Vik, the southern most point in Iceland. Vik means "bay" in Icelandic, and many cities in Iceland end with that word (such as Reykjavik, the capital). When I saw this church in Vik my heart stopped. It was very familiar but I couldn't quite figure out why. Turns out that the cover page for the Iceland book I studied for over a year had this exact image. :)
