Just outside of Twizel looking across Lake Ruataniwha.

A snowy view from the garden.

The sunrise clouds made a nice tapestry there for me to enjoy as well as the lone fisherman who joined me down on the rocks.

Used the 9 Stop ND to slow the water down a little here and smooth out the reflection on the flowing river.

I think it's always important to find a special place to reflect and refresh. For me, it's right here.

Lapland is the largest and northernmost region of Finland.

On the most romantic part of the Moselle Valley, where the river curves between two hiking paradises - Eifel and Hunsrück - lies the old town of Cochem. Even the Romans sang the praises of this remarkable landscape. It is true - a few things have changed since then, but the attraction has remained because the past centuries - above all the Middle Ages - have left their marks here.

The magnificent Reichsburg, the big castle, situated on a precipitous rock high above the town, dominates the landscape. The many delicate pointed towers, battlements and oriels give the impression of a typical fairy tale castle, particularly as it is one of the few castles in Germany, which was rebuilt in its original style after its complete destruction. As impressive as the castle itself is the view of the Moselle Valley with its beautiful forests, meadows, fields and vineyards, as well as the old part of the town.

The town of Cochem itself is a sight worth seeing, not only because of its narrow streets and twisty alleys, the lovingly restored half timbered houses with the typical slate roofs, the historical market-place, but also because of its medieval town gates, churches and walls. The wine-growers and restaurant owners would also like to take the time to introduce you to the variety of their excellent Riesling wines.

You can enjoy another facet of the town walking along the Mosel promenade which is decorated with flowers and where many benches invite you to a quiet break. A further attraction is a river tour on one of the Moselle boats, either during the day or at night with music and dancing, when the lights of the castle and the town are reflected in the water. Have fun and relax in the only indoor swimming pool with artificial waves in this area. It is a wonderfully situated leisure centre between meadows and vine-yards and offers all the luxury of a modern swimming pool in fine and bad weather.

A view across the Devon countryside, with bluebells flowering in the forground.

Margate, north of Brisbane. Hardly a soul on the beach, but once the weekend arrives, it might be a different story.

This was the view from the first place we stayed in Bali. We stayed in Candikunning - a small community on the slopes of one of the volcanoes in Bali. A great view and the air was full of the sounds of birds, cicadas, frogs and the call to prayer from the local mosque.

This is a pretty area of Acadia National Park that many do not see, but it is well worth the extra travel to get to.

The plasterer has finished such a messy job. Mind I can’t the knock plasterer other than nailing him down to do the job in the first place. His boast was he’d been plastering for 65 years and it looked it. He was nobbling around on bad knees talking to Carla a lot of the time drinking tea, but I have to take my hat off to him still doing it at his age. The biggest part of our job was replacing ceiling boards which I ripped out after water Ingres problems with the sunroom roof a couple of winters back. I was concerned as the job involved some heavy lifting, but he managed and put in two days hard grafted, still having plenty of time to natter with Carla. Now the job is done, the cleaning starts. The sunroom facing northwest is freezing cold this time of year, so we use it as make shift fridge for extra Christmas food and drink. It give my visiting family some exercise to walk to the back of the house to get plate of Christmas leftovers or another can of beer. Todays photo was taken in early November, no clever composition, no dramatic lighting, just a pretty view, well I think it is.
