View of the centre of the Belgian town of Ypres. Actually the town is in the Flemish speaking part of Belgium and there the name is Ieper - but the French name of the town were made quite (in)famous during the First World War.
The view here includes the Cloth hall (Lakenhalle van Ieper or Les Halles aux draps d'Ypres) originally built in the 13th century and St Martin's cathedral (Sint-Maartenskathedraal or Cathédrale Saint-Martin) begun in the same century, to be finished in 1370. Both these building were more or less completely destroyed in the First World War and the buildings you see now are (very well done) copies of the originals (the cathedral built in the 1920s and the Cloth hall 1930s-60s).
The pink colour of the inner petals is often hard to see, so this is why I chose a side view of this lovely blossom. This is one of my favourites types of peony and I can hardly wait to see them in another four months or thereabouts.
Thank you for your visits and comments, they're all greatly appreciated. Have a great day!

An old window at Eksjöhovgård (lit. Oak lake manor). And note the thickness of the walls!
The manor is situated just outside of the town Sävsjö, built in the 1650s by Carl Mauritz Lewenhaupt (who died with the title of field marshal in 1666). But it was not completed by the time of his death and his family could not complete the project. It saw substantial remodelling in the 1730s (including the tearing down of the top floor - so it is now a two storey structure). In 1812 the copper roof was sold and the manor quickly deteriorated - as buildings with no roof on tend to do...
The truly spectacular Quiraing is an icon of Scotland. Many people visit only the first short section of path. My intention was to walk around it, but heavy rain prevented me from doing so. A real shame, as the site is so spectacular.

High up on the battlements of the castle in Verona the reason for its location on the banks of the River Adige are quite clear.

Antelope Island Lady Finger trail offers wonderful elevated views of the Great Salt Lake. It’s also a favorite spot for many wedding / portrait photographer.
On this day a low horizon cloud deck prevented a photo perfect sunset, so I adapted.
View from the top of the Palisade Head looking up the Lake Superior North Shore towards Shovel Point. This unbelievable place is now part of Tettegouche State Park near Silver Bay, Minnesota.
View of Longyearbyen, the Advent Bay and the Hiorthfjellet mountain in the background, seen from the Nybyen neighbourhood. Longyearbyen is the main town of Svalbard, Norway's archipelago in the Arctic Ocean.

This is the view from Black Tor, towering above the hills surrounding Meldon reservoir on the North Western edge of Dartmoor National Park.
Part of a circular hike, we used the tor for a bit of rock climbing fun as well as a short rest with some cheesy twists!
For anyone interested, here the link to the full walk on Youtube: youtu.be/r2q-fU5moyk
