Verification of clearance of route leading into Rubkona airstrip extension near Bentiu, by UNMAS and contractor TDI. The extension came as an UNMISS directive, with the goal of allowing for greater capacity and heavier payloads in aircraft providing Mission and Humanitarian support and supplies. UNMAS was requested to ensure clearance of the area (verify it clear of UXO and other ERW and explosive materials) prior to the commencement of engineering work.

Friday's verification is a simple matter of confirming the number of ballot papers in each ballot box. the papers are counted face down, so only the ballot number is visible ... behind the tables are the staff enployed by the Electoral Office to count. In front of the tables are the political party agents trying to tally, and the occasional election observer too.
(Permission was sought to take photos that wouldn't identify ballots.)

I've seen enough doctored, damaged, and "fakified" butt stocks for Garands, and the scams always center around increasing value.
Worse still, vintage cartouched stocks are useless to me in my recreation and work. No point dragging a loosey-goosey butt stock to the range, one whose value will be attacked by tightening bedding or obscuring markings.
So I want to be rid of this crap, for purposes of replacing it with something I can use.
The Springfield GAW (ca.1944) has the look and feel of the real thing, unfooled with.
The "GHD" is a Winchester-marked piece, and the pistol grip shape seems weird to me. Still, it's not a terrible hunk of wood, and has what seems to be a WW2 SA butt plate and ferrule, swivel, and screws are intact.
Anyway, I'll be damned if I'll waste a lot of time research these, or especially, de-staining the "GAW", when it has no functionality for me. Fortuitously, I have some flawless wood that I can bed to perform suitably, so I'll just dispose of these to someone who wants them.

Bar-headed Goose
The bar-headed goose (Anser indicus) is a goose that breeds in Central Asia in colonies of thousands near mountain lakes and winters in South Asia, as far south as peninsular India. It lays three to eight eggs at a time in a ground nest.
The bird is pale grey and is easily distinguished from any of the other grey geese of the genus Anser by the black bars on its head. It is also much paler than the other geese in this genus. In flight, its call is a typical goose honking. A mid-sized goose, it measures 71–76 cm (28–30 in) in total length and weighs 1.87–3.2 kg (4.1–7.1 lb).
The summer habitat is high-altitude lakes where the bird grazes on short grass. The species has been reported as migrating south from Tibet, Kazakhstan, Mongolia and Russia before crossing the Himalaya. The bird has come to the attention of medical science in recent years as having been an early victim of the H5N1 virus, HPAI (highly pathogenic avian influenza), at Qinghai. It suffers predation from crows, foxes, ravens, sea eagles, gulls and others. The total population may, however, be increasing, but it is complex to assess population trends, as this species occurs over more than 2,500,000 km2 (970,000 sq mi).
The bar-headed goose is one of the world's highest-flying birds, having been heard flying across Mount Makalu – the fifth highest mountain on earth at 8,481 m (27,825 ft) – and apparently seen over Mount Everest – 8,848 m (29,029 ft) – although this is a second-hand report with no verification. This demanding migration has long puzzled physiologists and naturalists: "there must be a good explanation for why the birds fly to the extreme altitudes... particularly since there are passes through the Himalaya at lower altitudes, and which are used by other migrating bird species." In fact, bar-headed geese had for a long time not been directly tracked (using GPS or satellite logging technology) flying higher than 6,540 metres (21,460 ft), and it is now believed that they do take the high passes through the mountains. The challenging northward migration from lowland India to breed in the summer on the Tibetan Plateau is undertaken in stages, with the flight across the Himalaya (from sea-level) being undertaken non-stop in as little as seven hours. Surprisingly, despite predictable tail winds that blow up the Himalayas (in the same direction of travel as the geese), bar-headed geese spurn these winds, waiting for them to die down overnight, when they then undertake the greatest rates of climbing flight ever recorded for a bird, and sustain these climbs rates for hours on end, according to research published in 2011.
The 2011 study found the geese peaking at an altitude of around 6,400 m (21,000 ft). In a 2012 study that tagged 91 geese and tracked their migration routes, it was determined that the geese spent 95% of their time below 5,784 m (18,976 ft), choosing to take a longer route through the Himalayas in order to utilize lower-altitude valleys and passes. Only 10 of the tagged geese were ever recorded above this altitude, and only one exceeded 6,500 m (21,300 ft), reaching 7,290 m (23,920 ft). All but one of these high-altitude flights were recorded at night, which along with the early morning, is the most common time of day for geese migration. The colder denser air during these times may be equivalent to an altitude hundreds of meters lower. It is suspected by the authors of these two studies that tales of the geese flying at 8,000 m (26,000 ft) are apocryphal. Bar headed geese have been observed flying at 23,000 ft.
The bar-headed goose migrates over the Himalayas to spend the winter in parts of South Asia (from Assam to as far south as Tamil Nadu. The modern winter habitat of the species is cultivated fields, where it feeds on barley, rice and wheat, and may damage crops. Birds from Kyrgyzstan have been noted to stopover in western Tibet and southern Tajikistan for 20 to 30 days before migrating farther south. Some birds may show high wintering site fidelity.
They nest mainly on the Tibetan Plateau. Intraspecific brood parasitism is noticed with lower rank females attempting to lay their eggs in the nests of higher ranking females.
The bar-headed goose is often kept in captivity, as it is considered beautiful and breeds readily. Records[clarification needed] in Great Britain are frequent, and almost certainly relate to escapes. However, the species has bred on several occasions in recent years and around five pairs were recorded in 2002, the most recent available report of the Rare Birds Breeding Panel. It is possible the species is becoming gradually more established in Great Britain. The bird is sociable and causes no problems for other birds. The feral population is believed to be declining in Great Britain due to over-hunting.
The bar-headed goose has been suggested as being the model for the Hamsa of Indian mythology. Another interpretation suggests that the bar-headed goose is likely to be the Kadamb in ancient and medieval Sanskrit literature, whereas Hamsa generally refers to the swan.

What is a Parenting Coordinator?
The use of Parenting Coordinators is a relatively new intervention to manage high-conflict custody cases. Parents retain and compensate a clinician to arbitrate ongoing child-related disputes either by private agreement or by Court Order. That clinician then becomes the Parenting Coordinator.
What does the Parenting Coordinator do?
The Parenting Coordinator works directly with the parents to help them communicate more effectively and avoid conflicts about child-related issues. Parents who are constantly in court about child-related issues (such as a holiday visitation schedule or the sharing of information about a child’s academic or medical developments) might benefit from opinions and guidance to help make communication more effective. In addition, the parenting coordinator mediates issues, and when the parents are unable to agree, the parenting coordinator is often given the power to arbitrate what the result should be.
Ultimately, the court has the final say over child custody and visitation issues, but a Parenting Coordinator can drastically reduce the need to go to court and therefore reduce conflict for the children in families involved in such disputes.

As of today Thursday, November 10, 2011 ,
we are operating on a
TEN DAY TURN-AROUND SCHEDULE*
Your Certificates should be in the mail to
you within ten days after the receipt of
your application.
*This is based on our ACTUAL turn-around
time for the last 30 days.
The Final Word…
I talk to mental health professionals every day---social workers, counselors, psychologists, etc. Here are some of their questions---and my answers.
What does it cost?
$298 covers EVERYTHING for the first year. That’s made up of $169 application processing fee and $129 for the first full year certification dues. Then it will cost $129 per year. The annual fee of $129 will never change for you as long as you stay certified. (Yes, it may go up for new applicants, but NEVER for you!) We think that it’s only fair that the early applicants should reap some special benefits for their early loyalty. Also, if your application is not approved you get the $298 promptly refunded.
What do I get?
You get two certificates---one licensed-sized and one full size for your office. You will be added to a directory where court personnel and the public will go to find out about NCCE’s and NCPC’s. You’ll get discounts on seminars, publications, and testing instruments. Most important, you’ll have the ability to add an income producing certification to your practice, (I won’t even discuss the positive implications of adding a national title to your name.)
How long does it take?
It takes less than 45 minutes to fill out the application. (You push the SEND button and we have it five seconds later.) Ten days from then you’ll have your certificates and welcoming materials.

“Let us help you “quick start” your practice!”
HERE’S SOMETHING TERRIFIC THAT WE LEARNED BY ACCIDENT AND ARE NOW OFFERING TO EVERY NEW APPLICANT---IT’S ALREADY INCLUDED AS PART OF THE CERTIFICATION PACKAGE.
About six months ago, one of our new “approvals” asked us to send a letter to three family court judges telling them about her new credentials.
We did and…WOW, she actually got business from all three. We’ve done this a number of times since then and the results have always made us smile… so we’ve decided to make this a standing offer for every applicant.
Send us a list of judges, attorneys, etc. (up to a dozen) and we’ll send them a personal letter telling them about your new credentialing. It’s easy…it works…and the price is right---FREE!
Regards,
Howard
PS: I think it works because of the dynamics of hearing from a neutral third party.
BRAND NEW!
We’ve started sending Press Releases to local publications for each new approved credential.
