This is how I will look from now on.

Went exploring with etherjag. Also got a chance to test a NEX-7 with the Metabones Speed Booster.

Sony NEX-7 verdict:

It was a very capable camera in an amazingly small package. From a night / landscape photography standpoint, I would have no qualms about using it interchangeably with the 5D2/3. The image quality was very good, despite the sensor being APS-C and requiring the optical adapter to use full frame glass. It was unfortunate I did not get to test it with the Zeiss 12mm Touit since that would have allowed a more realistic assessment of its size and handling. The UI was poorly organized. The knobs need better labeling and stiffer detents. Overall this has me excited about the 2 FF Sony mirrorless cameras coming out in the next couple of weeks.

Metabones Speed Booster verdict:

While it was very amusing being able to mount some massive Canon FF lenses onto the tiny NEX-7 body, the overall combination was unwieldy and impractical. The image quality was quite good in the center, but distortion was very noticeable at the edges. One of the biggest disappointments was that I could never get autofocus to work, even with lenses that were listed as being supported. This was not a showstopper as 90% of my work is manual focus. Aperture control worked as advertised. As said in the NEX-7 summary, I think the more viable solution would be to go for the upcoming full frame high MP NEX model and wait for Metabones to come out with an adapter to allow using it with Canon glass.

Puttering 'round CA.

As part of my business travel "hotel view" collection, I woke up to sunlight hitting the Verdugo Mountains from the Glendale (CA) Hilton this morning. This is a similar view to my office space, but usually there's a large Hilton between me and the mountains, so I had to capitalize on this opportunity. Mountains and sunshine are always good things.
