A rose of Venezuela, also known as Scarlet flame bean, was spotted in Botanical Garden, Howrah, West Bengal, India
In addition to being a beautiful bird, there are some interesting facts about it: (i) it is the national bird of Venezuela, (ii) it is the largest of the orioles, (iii) it doesn't build a hanging nest but rather uses old nests of other birds or simply takes an active nest for its own use, and (iv) the eye is yellow and the breast feathers are pointed which creates a saw tooth lower edge to the hood, unlike in a typical oriole.
The troupial is perched in an agave. (I don't know the specific species.) This is from a small valley (more like a glen) which is absolutely covered in agave and trees, an unusual concentration for this arid island. Not sure the reason for this "micro environment" - maybe it is the soil, or protection from the wind, or access to water, or a combo of reasons. In the Spring the agave bloom and the bird life explodes feasting off the nectar.
