Well I thought it was just a wallaby in our back yard until I saw the claws!!

Nature is awesome, but sometimes the nature of nature is shockingly harsh. This GBHE was stalking a field next to my car, when I looked away, I heard a mammal scream and this was my first glimpse of what defines heron success. To quote FB friend Berni Nyberg, "They are such Velociraptors!"

Oh, the cheek! How could greedy Tyranno dare try stealing Veloci's beloved potato crisp?!? "Try" being the operative word, because never in the whole world would she let him have it. Ever! Lashing around furiously, her tail was ready to punch him right in the eye. "Go buy your own bag of potato crisps, you lazy bully! This isn't even your favourite variety!", she hissed. "But Veloci, darling", Tyranno cooed, "you know how I like to sleep in on New Year's Eve, and the shops closed at 2 p. m., and now it's a quarter past two... How can I properly celebrate New Year's Eve without potato crisps? Please share, there are enough crisps for the two of us. And it's much more fun to binge-watch all of the Jurassic Park franchise movies together. And afterwards, we could watch all the Alien movies. Come on, Veloci, dear, it will be so much fun!" "Hmpf. Maybe you are right. Watching the movies alone is not fun at all. But I get to sit in your arms the entire time! And next time you buy the crisps!"

There are quite a few guilty pleasures included already in the story above. And there are a few more in this photo: Keeping, and foremost buying things I don't need but might be useful one day for an MM theme, like these two dinosaur figures I didn't own before I became an MM member. Other guilty pleasures included in the image are: over-processing my photos, using over-saturated colours, writing weird stories...

I did in-camera focus stacking but brought a little blur back in Helicon Focus because I wanted some sense of motion in the image. Size-wise, this is pretty much maxed out, I arranged my little scene so that it was just a little less than three inches.

HMM, Everyone, and wishing you a "good slide" (einen guten Rutsch) into 2025, and a Happy, Healthy, and peaceful New Year!

At the end of the Cretaceous Period, 66 million years ago, the impact of a massive asteroid with the Earth resulted in billions of tons of dust and particles being ejected into the atmosphere. This lead to a serious decline in photosynthesis and a drastic decrease in temperature due to the blockage of the sun's radiation. It has been suggested that this could have caused an impact winter that froze large areas of the Earth. It is now generally accepted that the global catastrophe due to the impact of the asteroid lead to the mass extinction of 75% of the Earth's species, including all the non-avian dinosaurs.

For Macro Mondays theme 'In Ice'.

No velociraptors were harmed in the making of this photograph.

A cardinal looking at me like I'm prey. Soopy, overcast skies! Not the best light.

Close encounter with a very fearsome velociraptor at the Barton Grange Garden Centre near Preston, England HSS.

They're lethal at eight months, and I do mean lethal. I've hunted most things that can hunt you, but the way these things move...

Percy and I spotted this purple velociraptor on a walk a few days back. He has one just like it at home. His name is Vinny.

We pass this house on the base regularly. They have two stunning Malinois, this sign is a new complement to their dinosaur sign and we laughed when we saw it. Grand Forks AFB.

Velociraptor

Mit einer Länge von bis zu zwei Metern war Velociraptor ein mittelgroßer gefiederten Fleischfresser.

Er lebte vor 85,2 bis 76,4 Mio. Jahre.

Smaller than other dromaeosaurids like Deinonychus and Achillobator, Velociraptor was about 1.5–2.07 m (4.9–6.8 ft) long with a body mass around 14.1–19.7 kg (31–43 lb).

A sub-adult Moritz's Leaf-tailed Gecko (Saltuarius moritzi) from the rainforest cloaked hills above Coffs Harbour in northern NSW. A bizarre species that blends in remarkably well within its habitat.

As a big etymology fan, I was fascinated to see how my BMX-riding dromaeosaurid theropod got his name. You learn something new every day!

#Velociraptor at @zoomiami The name Velociraptor means ‘swift seizer’. Velociraptor lived in the late Cretaceous Period (around 73 million years ago). The Velociraptor played a large role in the Jurassic Park movies but was often shown inaccurately. Rather than being a larger, human sized dinosaur, the Velociraptor was around the size of a Turkey. It is also believed to have had feathers that were not shown in the movie portrayal.

A fully grown Velociraptor could grow up to 2m (6.6ft) in length, 0.5m (1.6ft) in height at the hip and weigh up to 15kg (33lb). The Velociraptor is thought to have killed its prey with sickle shaped claws on its rear feet.

The first known Velociraptor fossil was found in the Mongolian Gobi Desert in 1922.

Velociraptor

Jahre.

Smaller than other dromaeosaurids like Deinonychus and Achillobator, Velociraptor was about 1.5–2.07 m (4.9–6.8 ft) long with a body mass around 14.1–19.7 kg (31–43 lb).

The old photography adage that you should never leave home without your camera is so true. One day, with a few minutes to kill, I decided to take a walk in a nearby forested area. Suddenly, I spotted a velociraptor prowling through the foliage. Naturally, my first instinct was to flee from this terrible predator. Fortunately, I had seen all of the Jurassic Park movies, so I knew running was foolhardy. For about ten minutes, I remained perfectly still. Luckily, the raptor ignored me. However, as it was leaving, I was able, with shaking hands, to take a couple of shots. After the velociraptor left, I asked myself was this dinosaur some lone survivor living/hiding in the forests outside Vancouver? An escapee from some research lab? A lost extra from one of the Jurassic Park movies? No, actually it was a life-size replica I came across at Richmond's night market. :) The photo was taken in June 2016, with my trusty Olympus digital camera. Enjoy.

P.S. I am slowly catching up.

The old photographer's adage that you should never leave home without your camera is so true. This was certainly the case when I encountered this velociraptor, and boy was I happy that I had my long lens. Truth be told, velociraptors are pretty rare around here, which is probably just as well considering the raptor's long and sharp teeth. ;) The photo was taken in July 2018, with my trusty Olympus digital camera. Enjoy.

Even velociraptors like trick-or-treat. However, they get a bit cranky if you do have any treats to give them. The photo was taken in July 2019, with my trusty Olympus digital camera. Happy Halloween.

Macro Mondays: Miniature

Velociraptors fight among the giant plants of a prehistoric jungle.

Scene is about 2.25" across.

This Velociraptor looks nothing like the sleek, intelligent dinosaurs in the Jurassic Park movie. Recent fossil samples, according to the Michigan Science Center, indicate that some species of Velociraptors may have had feathers or feather-precursors. This picture shows their life-sized display of what a feathered Velociraptor may have looked like.

The velociraptors like hanging out in the middle of the bike trail despite oncoming riders, because zero fucks are given.

If these things keep it up, eventually someone is gonna bump into one of em inadvertently executing an unfortunate rotisserie bicycle service.

A Tlihi lancer with bonded velociraptor on patrol. The Tlihi are a lizardkin like race who live in a matriarchal society in a city deep in the desert waste lands. The warriors are all female and are bonded with their velociraptor mount from an early age. They fight primarily with lance or bow or using their mounts deadly claws and teeth.

Something a bit different. I've just finished reading JR Matthew's first two Portal to Nova Roma books and wanted to build a Tlihi lancer. I've never been really big into the fantasy genre but I admit to really enjoying the series and am looking forward to the next book being released this weekend!

Rabbit? Pterodactyl? Velociraptor? Rock protruding above the water surface. It was a busy day for pareidolia among the rocks in and around the tidal pool!

Welcome to my Jurassic Park series!

JP is much more than just the T. Rex scene and the gate. So in the next weeks I would like to take you on a journey through the whole park featuring different scenes from the iconic first movie.

For today let me introduce our first two main characters, Alan Grant a paleontologist and Ellie Sattler a paleobotanist. Here working at a dig site uncovering their latest finding, a velociraptor.

I haven't built much in advance yet, but I take this as a motivation to built something every week from now on. Hope it works...
