Estamos en un vieja barriada de pescadores con sus casitas bajas y calles empedradas, un deleite pasear por ellas.

The Cathedral Santa Maria de la Seu Vella, is the former cathedral church of the Roman Catholic Diocese of Lleida, in Catalonia.

In 1707, the Gothic cathedral was turned into a military citadel by decision of King Philip V of Spain. The new cathedral, known as the Seu Nova (New See) was consecrated in 1781.

Nevertheless, the Seu Vella is the defining monument of Lleida, the symbol of the city, being visible from its hilltop site anywhere in the city.

The Virgen de los Desemparados Basilica is dedicated to the patron saint of the city and is the most important religious building in Valencia from the 17th century. It was also the first new Baroque construction of its time. Built between 1652 and 1667 by Diego Martínez Ponce de Urrana, it is the only church in the old part of the city that was built new from the foundations up, and not on an existing parish church or convent.

La Basílica Virgen de los Desemparados está dedicada a la patrona de la ciudad y es el edificio religioso más importante de Valencia del siglo XVII. También fue la primera construcción barroca nueva de su época. Construida entre 1652 y 1667 por Diego Martínez Ponce de Urrana, es la única iglesia del casco antiguo de la ciudad que se construyó de nuevo desde los cimientos y no sobre una parroquia o convento existente.

The walled-in Old Town

The "Vila Vella Enceinte" is the only example of a fortified medieval town still standing on the Catalan coast. Its present appearance dates back to the end of the 14th century. It still has the entire original perimeter with battlemented stone walls, four turrets and three cylindrical towers with parapets. At the highest point, where the lighthouse stands today, was, until the beginning of the 19th century, the castle of the Abbot of the Monastery Santa Maria de Ripoll, the territorial Lord of the town. The site has been declared a national historic monument in 1931.

The interior of the Old Town is a charming place with narrow, cobblestoned streets, the Governor's House (now the Municipal museum), the House of Holy Cloth ("Sant Drap"), a medieval hospital, and remnants of a Romanesque church and a Gothic church.

The Plaza de la Virgen, located in the historic center of the city, houses the Cathedral, the Basilica of the Virgen de los Desamparados and the Palace of the Generalitat Valenciana.

For more than a thousand years, the Puerta de los Apóstoles de la Catedral has held the Tribunal de las Aguas every Thursday of the year at 12:00 noon. This court is the oldest existing legal institution in Europe, and probably also the oldest in the world.

The fountain in the center of the Plaza de la Virgen represents the Turia River.

La Plaza de la Virgen, situada en pleno centro histórico de la ciudad, acoge la Catedral, la Basílica de la Virgen de los Desamparados y el Palacio de la Generalitat Valenciana.

Desde hace más de mil años, la Puerta de los Apóstoles de la Catedral reúne el Tribunal de las Aguas todos los jueves del año a las 12:00 horas del mediodía. Este tribunal es la institución jurídica vigente más antigua de Europa, y probablemente también la más antigua del mundo.

La fuente que se encuentra en el centro de la Plaza de la Virgen representa al río Turia.
