I Want What You Got

Veins

I seek a strange shore, but I am not Ulysses... let no one bind me when the mermaids sing.

Somewhere under your skin, running through blood you're alive. Flood my veins... my veins.

Did you know that Arteries carry blood (with oxygen) from your heart out to your body, while veins carry blood (without oxygen) from your body to your heart?

That knowledge can give you the win in your local Pub or Club quiz!

By the way this is a leaf from the Papaya plant.

A small leaf just outside my back door.

Nothing goes as planned

Everything will break

People say goodbye

In their own special way

All that you rely on

And all that you can fake

Will leave you in the morning

But find you in the day

Everything is dark

It's more than you can take

But you catch a glimpse of sun light

Shining, shining down on your face

Your face

Oh your face

Oh, you're in my veins

And I cannot get you out

Oh, you're all I taste

At night inside of my mouth

Oh, you run away

'Cause I am not what you found

Oh, you're in my veins

And I cannot get you out

This is a common butterfly of damp grassland and woodland rides and is often mistaken for its cousin, the Small White. It can be found from spring through to autumn in parks and gardens, as well as less-urban areas such as meadows and woodland rides. The so-called green veins on the underside of the adults are, in fact, an illusion created by a subtle combination of yellow and black scales. This is one of the most widespread species found in the British Isles and can be found almost everywhere although it is absent from Shetland and areas of the Scottish Highlands.

An old autumn leaf covered in tiny frosty ice crystals highlighting the veins.

I've chosen the b&w modus here;

so that the veins come out better .....

Sustaining life through harshness. Winter B&W series No. 2.

Macro of a hazel leaf catching the afternoon sun !!

The Common Blue is the most widespread blue butterfly in Britain and Ireland and is found in a variety of grassy habitats.

The brightly coloured males are conspicuous but females are more secretive. The colour of the upperwings of females varies from almost completely brown in southern England to predominantly blue in western Ireland and Scotland, but the colour is variable within local populations with some striking examples. Unlike Adonis and Chalkhill Blues, the dark veins do not extend into white fringes of wing margins.

It remains widespread but there have been local declines within its range.

This is the final shot shot of the spectacular staghorn ferns series at Mount Cootha Botanic Gardens (Brisbane, Australia). The shot coincides with this year's Earth Day, a symbol of new beginnings; as is the fern according to indigenous peoples regards new life and new beginnings.

As such, the photo highlights the centre of the staghorn fern, which is very beautiful with unfolding new fronds ('leaves') in connection with the dark kidney-shaped reproductive organ, and all against the background of well-established wide fronds, particularly highlighting the frond veins. These veins or mid-ribs help position the fronds to face the light source, essential for all nature growth.

Decided to do something a little different from my normal flower brokehs :). I just love the way the light hit these dead leaves, exposing every little vein. The texture used is from Max -- Thanks!

I got some wonderful testimonials today, which made me feel very happy. So thank you to Mina, jess, and spoon_99 for your kind and heart felt words :)

couldn't resist this shot on this beautiful sweet Chesnut, the squirrels had left me none!

'Anyone who thinks that fallen leaves are dead has never watched them dancing on a windy day.' ... Shira Tamir

Veins on a leaf provide support for the leaf and transport both water and minerals (via xylem) and food energy (via phloem) through the leaf and on to the rest of the plant. I've always appreciated the scientific facts in this world, yet I cannot help but see those veins as tributaries to a main river. I suppose I'll always see the fanciful side of nature.

The fallen leaf recpitulates a fallen tree. The cycle of seasons prefiguring the cycle of decades or centuries.

Yet another shot from our flight over the amazing river deltas in the east of Iceland. I really can’t get enough of these images, especially because there is such a diversity of patterns and colors in the individual rivers. I can’t recommend doing such a flight enough, but until you get such a chance I hope you like this image! Wish you all a Merry Christmas!
