finally, nice december days have arrived! After a long period of overcast weather we see something different than grey shades, and ice is attempting to cover the river Fyris, at least in parts.../ Uppsala, finalmente días lindos! Tras un largo período de tiempo lluvioso pudimos ver algo diferente que tonos grises, y el hielo está intentando cubrir el río Fyris, al menos en parte.../ Uppsala, äntligen fina december dagar! Efter en lång tid med tråkigt väder ser vi annat än gråa färger, och isen gör ett försök med att lägga sig över delar av Fyrisån…

On the cape Arkona (Kap Arkona in German) on the island of Rügen is the old sanctuary called Jaromarsburg. It was used by the tribe the Rani (a West Slavic tribe, also known as Ranen or Rujanen - which means "the red"). The sanctuary was used from the 6th to the 12th century - when the tribe was converted to Christianity.

The sanctuary was protected by two walls reaching 13 metres (and which can still be seen today) and the sanctuary itself was made of wood. From 1068, when another Slavic sanctuary was destroyed, it became the most prominent Slavic place of worship on the southern Baltic sea coast. The god worshiped there was the four-faced Svetovid (Svantevit, Svantovit et cetera ), the god of war, fertility and abundance.

The name Jaromarsburg comes from the ruler Jaromar I - but it was not what the place was called by the Rani themselves.

What you see isn't always what you think you see... This fountain was built in 1386, as a water supply for the town, and decorated in 1409-1419 by the sculptor Jacopo della Quercia. But that is actually not what you see today. Today's fountain contains the copies of these reliefs, made by Tito Sarrocchi in 1868 (which included that he did completely new figures replacing two nudes from the original composition).

Här kommer mitt bidrag till fotosöndags veckotema - eld och vatten.

Det är ett tag sen jag satte fyr på något i huset, jag hoppades att jag kunde göra "det stort". Tyvärr fick jag inte sätta fyr på något då jag använde för mycket diesel sist ute lol. Jag fick lov att tända ett ljus, min fru hade äran att vara vattenpistol vakt och släcka det innan jag hade fler idéer.

Here comes my contribution to fotosöndag's weekly challenge - fire and water.

It's been a while since I set fire to something in the house so I was hoping to "go big". Sadly I wasn't allowed to start a fire due to last time I used too much diesel lol. I was allowed to light a candle though, with my wife on water gun duty to put it out before I got bigger ideas.....

Strobist info: Single Godox AD200 placed in a gridded softbox directly above the candle and hand. Candle was placed on a mirror to reflect some light back into the shadows on the hand.
