De “Pyramide van Austerlitz” is gelegen op het hoogste punt van de Utrechtse Heuvelrug en is gebouwd in 1804. De piramide werd 36 meter hoog en kreeg daarbovenop een 13 meter hoge obelisk. De bouw duurde 27 dagen.
Generaal Marmont liet de piramide bouwen door het Frans-Bataafse leger, als eerbetoon aan zijn vriend Napoleon Bonaparte. Geïnspireerd door diens veldtocht naar Egypte, koos Marmont voor een piramide met op de top een obelisk. Deze obelisk was van hout en raakte snel in verval. In 1894 werd een nieuwe obelisk gebouwd van steen, maar de pyramide zelf werd nauwelijks hersteld. Napoleons broer Lodewijk Napoleon, destijds koning van Holland, gaf het monument de naam “Pyramide van Austerlitz” naar de veldslag in het huidige Tsjechië.
Tot een paar jaar geleden was alleen de stenen obelisk op de top van de Pyramide te zien wegens gebrek aan onderhoud. Nederlandse en Franse overheidsinstanties besloten dat het monument moest blijven bestaan. In 2000 is men dan ook de piramide, met het bos erom heen, gaan renoveren met als resultaat dat de “pyramide” onder de stenen obelisk weer zichtbaar is. Je kunt de 81 treden tellende piramide beklimmen (excl. de treden bij de opstap). Het gras van de piramide wordt wekelijks handmatig gemaaid.

The "Pyramid of Austerlitz" was built in 1804.
General Marmont had the pyramid built by the Franco-Batavian army, in tribute to his friend Napoleon Bonaparte. Inspired by his campaign to Egypt, Marmont chose a pyramid with an obelisk on top. This obelisk was made of wood and quickly fell into disrepair. In 1894 a new obelisk of stone was built.
Napoleon's brother Louis Napoleon, then King of Holland, gave the monument the name “Pyramid of Austerlitz” after the battle in today's Czech Republic.

Het Hofje van Staats is een Haarlems hofje, het hofje is te vinden aan de Jansweg 39, vlak bij het NS-station in Haarlem. Het Hofje van Staats werd gesticht uit de nalatenschap van de Haarlemse garenreder en handelaar Ysbrand Staats. Staats bepaalde in zijn testament dat zijn hele erfenis bestemd was voor de armen. De eerste steen werd gelegd op 29 juli 1730 door de broer van Ysbrand Staats. Het hofje werd gebouwd door Hendrik de Werff.
In 1733 waren de 30 huisjes voor alleenstaande oudere vrouwen klaar. Voorwaarde om in het hofje van Staats te kunnen wonen, was dat men gereformeerd was. Bij de restauratie in 1990 werd een aantal huisjes samengevoegd, hiermee werd het aantal woningen teruggebracht van 30 naar 20. Bijzonder zijn de ruime binnentuin, het opzichterhuisje, mortuarium en de washokjes. Het mortuarium doet tegenwoordig dienst als fietsenberging.

Wegens werkzaamheden was er van vrijdagavond 26 augustus 2022 ( 21.00 uur ) t/m vrijdagavond 9 september 2022 ( 21.00 uur ) geen treinverkeer mogelijk via grensovergang Emmerich (D) en hierdoor werd veel treinverkeer omgeleid via de grensovergangen Bad Bentheim (D) en Venlo. De DB Cargo-locs 189 036 – 7 + 189 035 – 9 zijn op 3 september 2022 bij America met een beladen ertstrein onderweg vanuit de Maasvlakte via Venlo naar
het Duitse Dillingen (D).

The Red Apple (KCAP Architecten & Jan des Bouvrie) straight up. Apart from the verticalism, a prominent design feature of the Red Apple is the red aluminium 'misaligned with tonal variances' facade cladding.

De weerspiegeling in één van de ramen van het kantorengedeelte (loopt iets rond) van de Van Nellefabriek van o.a. het gebouw van de Penitentiaire Inrichting 'De Schie' (bruin en geblokte deel) dat aan de andere kant van de Delfshavense Schie ligt. Druk op de 'L' toets voor de vergroting.
The reflection in one of the windows of the office part (slightly rounded) of the Van Nelle factory of, among other things, the building of the Penitentiary Institution 'De Schie' (brown and checkered part) that is located on the other side of the Delfshavense Schie. Press the 'L' key for the magnification.
De neonletters 'Van Nelle' door het raam gefotografeerd. Ik vond het leuk om deze letters - die zodra het donker wordt gaan branden - van dichtbij vast te leggen. Ook dit keer werkte de blauwe lucht met de mooie wolken weer mee om ook hiervan een kleurrijke foto te maken. Druk op de 'L' toets voor de vergroting.
The neon letters 'Van Nelle' photographed through the window. I enjoyed capturing these letters - which light up as soon as it gets dark - up close. Also this time the blue sky cooperated with the beautiful clouds to make a colorful picture of this too.
I know it's been ages since I've made any images to upload mostly because I'm not able to get a decent sized image to work with without crashing atleast a zillion times before. But all this aside, I've made these two hats for " Art In Hats" an event that I'm sure you'll be hearing more about pretty soon!
Eén van de lange gangen in dit fabrieksgedeelte van Van Nelle. Hier ontbreken de Gispenlampen gelukkig niet en heb je door de ramen een mooi uitzicht op de skyline van Rotterdam. De genummerde tabakszuilen geven hier een extra tintje aan deze gang. Even groot bekijken - door op de 'L' toets te drukken.
