Deep in conversations with good friends. Catching up on where we are at and reminiscing about the past.
It is fairly safe to say that I grew up in a Nissan Van family.
The E20 shown here, in groovy period white/red was the model owned by my uncle and aunt and (older) cousins.
My parents had a 1981 E23 Urvan, as did the family of my younger cousins. Both E23s were white SWB 9-seaters.
Back to the E20 though. I never remember there being a car before this, so it may have been as early as the original 1973 launch of this series, or as late as 1976 (when the youngest cousin from this family was born).
Are vans cool?
Not really. Certainly not when you are 16 years old and learning to drive. They did have a period of society coolness in the 1970s, for sure. Japanese vans of the era though, are generally more about interior space and efficiency (this LWB E23 being about the same length as today's Corolla, despite seating 11).
Vans are cools again now, or at least retro vans like this one, now 50 years old.
