4143AT was a Van Hool Acron T818 CH60Ft purchased new in June 1983. It heads a high quality line up in Strothers Lane in Inverness. Allander and Newton's of Dingwall were partners in "Fast Class" express coach operations which linked Glasgow/Edinburgh /Perth to Inverness, with extensions to Thurso provided by Dunnet's of Keiss. I used their services a few times in the 1980's and they were excellent with videos played which really broke the journey up. The Scottish Bus Group were caught napping and competed with Duple bodied Leyland Tigers, but they were just not in the same league. Eventually they bought Newton's business and entered into an agreement with Allander that when they took the service off, they were given a guaranteed mileage on Citylink work for a couple of years.

It became PGD193Y on disposal and passed to Monks of Leigh, who then re-registered it as TOT987.

2320DD was a Van Hool Astron T818 CH60Ft purchased new in May 1983 for use on "Fast Class" express services which was run by Newton's, Allander Travel and Dunnet's of Keiss linking Glasgow/Edinburgh to Inverness/ Wick/Thurso and Ullapool. It was a high class operation providing snacks and drinks, videos etc. At the time the Scottish Bus Group were running Leyland Leopards and Tigers which just could not compete, so it was with great relief when Newton's sold out in December 1985. This coach was transferred to Western Scottish as their M209 in 1985 and ran initially with Newton's fleetnames. It very brielfy had them removed and Scottish decals applied instead but not for long. It was coming into Buchanan bus station in Glasgow to provide duplication for the London service during the Glasgow Fair Fortnight.

A853TDS was a Volvo B10M-61 / Van Hool Astron CH49/6Dt purchased new by Harris of Armadale in January 1984. It passed quickly to Newton's of Dingwall and was included when The Scottish Bus Group purchased the business in December 1985. It was allocated to Clydeside Scottish for use on Rapide Service 548 Glasgow to Manchester, worked from Thornliebank Depot and was re-registered as VLT28. The service was later extended to work through to Inverness and this coach was transferred to Highland as A199WUS with fleetnumber R999. It then passed to Bruce of Airdrie Ltd. and was re-registered to HIL8434 and is shown operating on the Scottish Citylink Glasgow to Edinburgh Service. Bruce of Airdrie Ltd eventually became part of British Bus and some staff were involved in alleged revenue irregularities which ultimately led to it's closure.

Seen near Victoria in London is Linburg of Darnall Van Hool TX17 Astron L28URG. New as YJ66FHW for Arriva Greenline it is now in Megabus livery.

A Van Hool Astron that has a rather hard to find fleet name - its right at the end of the off-side - and has a nondescript all 'battleship grey' livery that is a current trend for high-specification coaches.

Anyway, I caught-up with it outside Macclesfield Town FC's Moss Rose ground when it was on Easteligh FC team coach duties

The downstairs lounge incorporated a kitchen area enabling hot drinks and snacks to be served whilst on the move which, with the inevitable on board toilet and multi screen video entertainment system all combined to give holidaymakers airline quality travel at affordable prices. Add to this long range fuel tanks allowing a range in excess of 1000 miles it meant from an operational point of view that you could carry more paying passengers for longer journeys with less stops much quicker allowing maximum utilitisation of the fleet.
