.... Uxbridge, is a town in south-central Ontario, Canada with a population of 11,500, it is named after Uxbridge, England. The first settlers in the area were Quakers who started arriving in 1806 from the Catawissa area of Pennsylvania. Uxbridge was incorporated into a village in 1872 and a town in 1885. Uxbridge is twinned with Catawissa, Pennsylvania in the United States, from which many of its settlers originated.

Built 1949 Builder - Douglas Work .... in Art Deco style .... Behind the Art Deco facade, there's actually an old metal Quonset Hut which contains 2 theatres. The Roxy Theatre has been a part of the Uxbridge scene for more than 65 years, the quonset-style building was originally built in May 1949 by Douglas Work of Burkes Falls, who named it the RIO theatre. In 1951, the Theatre Amusement Company purchased it and the name was changed to ROXY. The theatre was closed in the 1970s and converted into a drug store for about 20 years before being purchased by Cathy and Mark Christoff in 1996. The Christoffs renovated the entire building and reopened it as the ROXY Theatre, with two screens, in December that year ....

.... Two Uxbridge landmarks side by side, the Art Deco facade of The Roxy Theatre & the Uxbridge Public Library, in High Victorian Gothic style ....

Built 1871 .... in 'Ontario' Picturesque Gothic style .... 1 1/2 storey frame house built in 1871 with large and small gables and gothic style windows and an oriel window.

Built 1860 Builder - Edward Wheler .... in 'Ontario' Cottage style .... This quaint home was built in 1860 by Edward Wheler, with lumber for its construction coming from both his mill and that of his brother George. Although fairly small, this 1 1/2 storey 'Ontario Cottage' style home possesses many interesting architectural features. The front gable has a ‘church style’ window. Each gable is accented by a finial and decorative gingerbread bargeboards. The gingerbread runs along the eaves and into the gables along the front and sides and remains in good condition. All the windows are surrounded by window labels and the original six over six panes are still in the home.

.... Limestone statue of a World War One Canadian soldier, stands guard atop the memorial. It appears that the rifle he is holding was replaced in more recent times ....

Built 1884 Builder - George Long .... in Classic 'Ontario' Picturesque style .... This attractive two storey house was built of the same yellow brick used on many other homes along First Avenue. Windows feature two over two panes with shutters and smaller stained glass windows on both the lower and upper floor levels. The original porch features decorative railing and frieze supported by balustrades. Front and side gable ends feature unique bargeboard and gingerbread treatment.

.... This memorial is proudly dedicated to those from Uxbridge and District who gave their lives in the First and Second World Wars and the Korean War. It was erected by the Imperial Order of the Daughters of the Empire (I.O.D.E.) and the citizens of Uxbridge. All the names on the cenotaph are from the Great War, along with the crests of the Canadian Expeditionary Forces, which they joined. A brass plaque on the front bears the names of the dead, and the back hosts the names of those who returned. A limestone statue of a soldier stands guard atop the memorial. It appears that the rifle he is holding was replaced in more recent times.

Built 1868 .... Stately Uxbridge landmark house, The Harman House, built in wood frame style

Built 1887 Architect - John T Stokes .... in High Victorian Gothic style .... The three-storey building is built on a steep slope with the basement opening at ground level on the east to Pond Street, and the second level opening to Toronto Street on the west. The building is of late Victorian style with Gothic proportions and detailing. Brickwork includes bands of red which contrast with the overall buff brickwork typical of the area and period of construction. The clock tower of the library is one of the most interesting architectural features of the Town of Uxbridge. The library clock was installed on August 16, 1887, by the Seth Thomas Clock Co. of Thomaston, Connecticut, and it still works perfectly 128 years later. The Public Library continues to be the most recognizable landmark in Uxbridge to this day .... (note the Uxbridge Cenotaph / War Memorial in front of library)

Built 1888 Architects - Henry Langley & Edmund Burke .... in Romanesque style .... Originally built as the Uxbridge Methodist Church
