Utility room. No laundry chute - but there is a refrigerator. This is what the "unfinished" (!) side mostly looks like.

I never realized how much utility poles and wires can change the character of a community until we bought the new house. While we can now be carefree with ladders, we have to be careful with digging.

On Sunday, I came home from work and Bruce had made us some shelves in our utility/laundry room. There used to be a window there, between the kitchen and the utility room, but it wasn't the nicest looking thing. Bruce and Bonnie took it out for us and turned it into a wall. On the other side, Bruce used the spare pieces from some old IKEA shelves (useless without the hardware to put them together) and made us some recessed shelves. The light is probably better for pictures in there during the day, but I got home pretty late and was at a loss for things to photograph.

I made so many mistakes on this I started over. First I used a quad norton amp (because I had one, actually 6 of them) which would have required mods to make work, then the pinout for said norton would not work with something more standard like the LM324 I settled on, So I started over, but then made a mistake with my Inverting follower and caught it early. I had to crank the gain on another amp (LF411) to boost my 3904 white noise transistor to get a decent level. Since it was just a noise source, I stuck to a single amp rather than stages. In the end, it works great, it just took a week to get there between fabrication and the circuits. Glad that's over.

Heavily re-processed: detail from larger photo, softened and colour boosted.

Beyond this sign lies a reservoir and electrical pumping equipment. The sign warning of death by electricity is behind a fence. In between the fence and the sign are dead plants.

This was taken for the Guardian Camera Club "Utilities" entry. I rejected it as the only interesting element in the photo comes from a heavily altered version.
