This pole is situated adjacent to the historic Pears Mill on the Common in downtown Buchanan, Michigan, and has some history attached to it. Start with the climbing rungs still attached and the numerous pock marks made by climbing spikes. The metal buttons/plates tacked to the pole read as follows (from the top down):

This pole is near the end of a whole line of poles, all showing evidence of being quite old, that serves a small downtown residential neighborhood.

Saint-Gobain PAM Canalisation began as a modest foundry in France.
The company was called the “Société Anonyme des hauts fourneaux et fonderies de Pont-à-Mousson”.
The industrial venture at Pont-à-Mousson started almost by accident after the discovery of a large deposit of iron ore in the Meurth-et-Moselle area of France in 1854.
A decision was made to produce iron pipes and the first one was manufactured in 1865.
In an innovative step at that time, the “Société Anonyme des hauts fourneaux et fonderies de Pont-à-Mousson” immediately created a sales department, a decision that heralded the start of its specialization in water transportation.
Over time the company has expanded into a worldwide conglomerate.
Entering the next tower, we find that indeed, every home has one of these -- you know, that utility room by the side door where all the junk ends up that nobody needs.

Often the public service network creates strange geometries that seem created to confuse. Those tangles of pipes, cables, counters, boxes, doors, etc. produce a certain charm given their old look; almost out of place in the (supposedly) digital world in which we live.
